AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineer II – Transportation to join our growing Transportation team in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is an excellent opportunity for an mid-career transportation engineer to work alongside experienced professionals on roadway, highway, and multimodal transportation projects throughout Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of transportation improvements while continuing to build technical expertise in roadway design, drainage, traffic control, and construction documentation. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers, you will support projects from preliminary engineering through final design while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of roadway, highway, and transportation design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to roadway geometry, drainage systems, grading, and pavement design.
  • Support the development of intersection improvements, roadway reconstruction, complete streets, and multimodal transportation projects.
  • Prepare traffic control and maintenance of traffic plans for transportation improvement projects.
  • Utilize Bentley OpenRoads, MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and other engineering software to develop design deliverables.
  • Coordinate with project team members to ensure designs meet client requirements, applicable standards, and project schedules.
  • Participate in field reviews, data collection, and construction support activities as needed.
  • Assist with technical reports, engineering studies, and permitting documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with internal project teams and clients while continuing to develop project delivery and technical skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS/BA and 4+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Transportation Engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience supporting roadway, highway, or transportation design projects.
  • Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) design standards and local agency requirements.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification; Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
