How employers screen

How Workable actually reads your resume

If the company you're applying to uses Workable to hire, this page explains exactly how the system reads your resume — and what small formatting choices will get your name in front of a human instead of lost.

Parser type

Modern parser with reasonable tolerance for varied formats. Workable supports custom screening questions ("form application questions" in Workable's terminology) for knockout filtering (The Tech Resume).

Formatting pitfalls

  • Multi-column layouts remain problematic. Single-column format is safest.
  • Standard date format warnings apply; inconsistent dates cause experience miscalculation.

How recruiter search works

Recruiters use keyword search and screening question filters. Workable's pipeline view shows applicants by stage; recruiters process applications manually. No automated scoring of resume content.

What parse failure looks like

Empty or wrong auto-filled candidate fields; candidate does not surface in keyword searches for relevant skills.
