Position Summary

The Chainsaw & Weed Eater Laborer performs hands-on outdoor work using chainsaws, weed eaters (string trimmers), and related equipment to clear vegetation, maintain properties, and support grounds or landscaping projects. The role requires safe operation of power equipment, physical stamina, and the ability to work effectively as part of a crew in varying weather conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operate chainsaws to fell small trees, prune limbs, cut brush, and process wood or debris according to job specifications and company safety standards.
• Operate weed eaters/string trimmers to cut grass, weeds, and overgrown vegetation along fences, buildings, sidewalks, roadsides, ditches, and other designated areas.
• Clear, gather, and dispose of cut materials; load debris into trucks, trailers, or chippers as required.
• Conduct pre-use equipment inspections and perform basic maintenance (fueling, oiling, cleaning, replacing string/blades, and minor adjustments).
• Wear and properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including chainsaw chaps, eye and ear protection, gloves, hard hat, and sturdy footwear.
• Follow all company safety policies, manufacturer guidelines, and job-site instructions at all times.
• Assist with general labor tasks such as raking, hauling, stacking, or supporting other crew members when not operating power tools.
• Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or site issues to the supervisor immediately.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and properly store tools and equipment at the end of each shift.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating chainsaws and/or weed eaters preferred; on-the-job training may be provided for qualified candidates.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Basic knowledge of outdoor power equipment safety and care.
• Reliable transportation and punctuality required.
• Valid driver’s license preferred (may be required depending on job site travel needs).

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50–75 lbs regularly.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, humidity).
• Manual dexterity and physical stamina to operate vibrating power equipment for several hours per day.
• Comfortable working on uneven terrain, slopes, and around obstacles.

Work Environment

Primarily outdoor work on residential, commercial, municipal, or job-site properties. Exposure to noise, dust, pollen, insects, and changing weather is expected. Safety is a top priority; all required PPE must be worn while operating equipment.
