Risk Manager - Channels and Shared Services (Hybrid)

As a Risk Manager in Capital One’s Card Risk Team you will apply your risk management, project management and analytical skills to our highest profile risk initiatives. Risk Managers are at the front line of defense to ensure our company remains stable and profitable. They lead, advise and innovate on top transformational initiatives across the businesses in the first line of defense and are responsible for working with business partners to identify and mitigate potential risks to Capital One. In this role you will have the opportunity to support Channels and Shared Services.

Risk Managers have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to partner with Executives and their teams to identify potential risks in an open, collaborative environment where new ideas and solutions are both welcomed and rewarded.

As a member of the Channels and Shared Services risk team within the Card Risk Office, you’ll be challenged to shape the risk mitigation strategy for one or more areas of Channels and Shared Services. You’ll work with various stakeholders to identify unmitigated risks and assist with opportunities to strengthen the control environment to reduce risks for the business while building lasting partnerships.

Risk Managers at Capital One are highly motivated risk management professionals with an ability to think critically and problem solve. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with senior management to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company. Risk Managers are expected to have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business teams and other key stakeholders to help develop well-designed products, processes, marketing, and supporting technologies and implement risk management practices; support our business partners on risk / return trade-off decisions
  • Lead risk-related initiatives and process/control overhauls, focusing on transforming manual detective frameworks into automated, full-file, real-time monitoring solutions.
  • Stay abreast of the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to the business areas and lead mitigation efforts across impacted areas
  • Lead ad-hoc projects to improve processes or control environment to mitigate risks
  • Participates in risk forums and business reporting routines and contributes to continuous improvement of risk management practices
  • Utilize advanced data analytics to perform deep-dive assessments, dissect complex risk scenarios, and connect localized root causes to broader business and technological impacts.
  • Ground strategic decisions in rigorous, data-driven analytics to proactively identify, manage, and mitigate potential risks, maintaining stability and profitability.

  • Drive the end-to-end execution of Process Level Assessments (PLAs) and Risk Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), providing independent challenge to ensure that the control environments for critical business processes remain robust and effective.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification
  • At least 3 years of payments operations experience or risk management experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in stakeholder relationship management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects or programs in Risk
  • 5+ years of Financial Services risk management experience

McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk Manager

Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager
