Position Summary

Essential Duties

  • Performs assessments and diagnoses, and develops treatment plans for language and swallowing disorders.
  • Evaluates levels of swallowing, speech, and language difficulty and identifies appropriate treatment options.
  • Creates and carries out individualized treatment plans that address each resident's specific functional needs and personal goals.
  • Teaches residents techniques to improve sound production, voice, and fluency, tailored to what resonates with each individual.
  • Creates goals and objectives for residents to work toward, celebrating progress and working collaboratively through challenges.
  • Provides support and advice to residents, their caregivers, and family members with warmth and patience.
  • Counsels residents and families on ways to cope with swallowing and communication disorders, fostering trust throughout the process.
  • Builds strong relationships with residents over time, taking a genuine interest in their personalities, preferences, and everyday lives.
  • Compiles thorough notes on residents’ progress and adjusts therapies and treatment plans where necessary.
  • Documents resident care services according to approved medical and facility documentation procedures.
  • Collaborates closely with fellow team members, contributing to a supportive, inclusive workplace culture where diverse backgrounds and perspectives are welcomed and celebrated.

Basic Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited therapy program.
  • Experience: 2–3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current Speech Language Pathologist state license; CPR certification.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication, active listening, and social perceptiveness
  • Relationship building, compassionate instruction, and genuine appreciation for individuality and diverse life experiences
  • Critical thinking, sound judgment, and decision-making

  • Collaborative teamwork
  • Physical stamina to lift, transfer, and assist residents through physical activities.
  • Requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted, including assisting residents when needed.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with residents in person and over the phone.
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of residents and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
