How we flag a ghost
- Posting age. Over 60 days live with no activity is a red flag. Over 90 is a hard ghost in most industries.
- Recruiter cadence. When was the last time the recruiter account logged in? Repost frequency?
- Industry base rate. Ghost rates are not uniform — government hiring shows a 60% gap between openings and hires (BLS JOLTS, June 2025), while retail is much lower. We normalize against the industry.
- Description fingerprints. Duplicate wording across companies often signals an evergreen ghost posting used to collect resumes.
