As Senior Director, Chief of Staff to the Chief Scientific and Medical Officer (CSMO), you will serve as a strategic partner helping connect scientific, medical, and regulatory priorities with key enterprise initiatives that drive innovation, growth, and impact.

In this highly visible role, you will help shape strategic priorities, strengthen leadership operating mechanisms, and coordinate major initiatives across the enterprise. Working closely with the CSMO and leadership team, you will enhance alignment, accelerate execution, and help position the function as a proactive leader in advancing innovation and enterprise value.

A Day in the Life

Enterprise Strategy & Leadership Operations

  • Partner with the CSMO to drive alignment of strategic priorities across the organization and ensure strong connectivity to enterprise growth and innovation objectives.
  • Lead the annual strategic planning process and translate enterprise strategy into clear priorities and execution plans for the function.
  • Design and manage leadership operating mechanisms, including functional reviews, leadership forums, and strategic communications that improve alignment, speed, and execution.
  • Strengthen connectivity across the leadership team and enterprise partners to enable effective cross-functional collaboration.

Planning, Coordination & Execution

  • Coordinate planning activities across the organization to ensure alignment of priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Monitor progress across key initiatives and programs, surfacing interdependencies. risks, and opportunities to leadership to help maintain alignment and accelerate execution.
  • Partner with functional teams and program leaders to synthesize inputs, prepare leadership materials, and ensure clear communication and follow-through on leadership decisions.
  • Serve as a central point of coordination for cross-functional workstreams, helping connect efforts across teams and ensuring initiatives remain aligned and moving forward.
  • Support executive readiness by coordinating input from subject matter experts and developing integrated materials for senior leadership and enterprise-level discussions.

Enterprise Initiatives & Transformation

  • Coordinate the function’s engagement in major enterprise initiatives, including digital and AI-enabled transformation, innovation programs, and growth strategies.
  • Facilitate coordination across CMRA and enterprise initiatives to connect scientific, medical, and regulatory efforts and synthesize an integrated view for leadership and enterprise discussions
  • Support organizational transformation initiatives by helping align priorities, teams, and operating approaches as the organization evolves.

Portfolio, Investment & Strategic Growth

  • Work closely with CMRA LT, Finance, HR, and other partners to support key functional processes such as annual operating planning (AOP), annual strategic planning, resource planning, and organizational priorities.
  • Coordinate with Business Development and the CMRA leadership team to support M&A, divestiture, and business development activities, helping to ensure alignment, and preparation across strategy, operations, and integration planning.
  • Track progress across key strategic initiatives and provide insights to leadership to support decision-making and execution.

Executive Engagement & Decision Support

  • Develop strategic insights and executive materials for senior leadership discussions, including portfolio reviews, enterprise strategy forums, and board-level engagements.
  • Enable effective decision-making by ensuring leaders have clear, integrated perspectives across complex initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CSMO and leadership team, helping strengthen organizational effectiveness, communication, and execution.
  • Requires advanced management and leadership knowledge to lead cross-department project teams or manage across multiple functions.
  • Typically has mastery within a specific technical or broad expertise across multiple related disciplines (e.g. finance, IT).
  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with 10+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum 13 years of relevant experience and 10+ years of managerial experience.

Communication and Influence: Identifies, initiates, establishes and develops long term strategic relationships and alliances with key organizational stakeholders. Serves as principal spokesperson for the department, broad functional area or geography making recommendations to leaders and executives regarding strategic initiatives. Influences across functions and businesses to negotiate and gain cooperation on divergent objectives.

Leadership and Talent Management: Directs and controls one or more functional areas, geographies, divisions, product groups or service groups that include multiple teams led by directors and / or Sr Managers. Determines organizational structure and develops talent strategies. Develops management team to support strategic objectives. Authorizes hiring, firing, promotion and reward within own area.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires advanced management and leadership knowledge to lead cross-department project teams or manage across multiple functions. Typically has achieved mastery within a specific technical or broad expertise across multiple related disciplines.
