JOB SUMMARY
The Sr. Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team (Electrical, Mechanical, Thermal, and Firmware) to deliver high-quality products and support business growth. This role owns organizational capability, execution excellence, and engineering strategy, ensuring alignment between technical delivery, customer expectations, and long-term business objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Leadership & Strategy
- Plan, organize, and direct multi-functional engineering team organization to meet business objectives
- Translate business direction into engineering priorities, execution plans, and resource allocation
- Drive organizational scalability, efficiency, and capability development
Execution Ownership & Governance
- Oversee engineering execution across multiple projects
- Establish governance for technical decisions, tradeoffs, and risk management
- Ensure predictable execution through clear metrics, cadence, and accountability
- Align engineering outputs to schedule, cost, quality, and customer expectations
Cross-Functional & Customer Leadership
- Lead cross-functional alignment across engineering, program management, operations, and quality
- Support customer engagement, including technical discussions, escalations, and strategic alignment
- Ensure a consistent and unified engineering position in external and internal communications
Technical Leadership & System Thinking
- Provide leadership on system design, integration, and cross-disciplinary tradeoffs
- Guide resolution of complex technical challenges
- Ensure high-quality engineering decisions and proactive risk management
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Drive improvements in engineering processes, tools, and workflows
- Enable faster development cycles through improved coordination and execution discipline
- Promote innovation and challenge legacy approaches
MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership & Development
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results-driven team environment
- Coach and mentor engineers to achieve high performance and career growth
- Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard engineering staff
- Identify individual and team strengths and development needs
Performance Management
- Establish clear goals and performance expectations aligned to organizational objectives
- Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and formal performance evaluations
- Monitor team performance against metrics and drive continuous improvement
Resource Planning
- Manage workload distribution and optimize utilization of engineering resources
- Align staffing to program needs and forecast future resource requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of engineering experience in product development
- 5+ years of leadership experience in engineering management roles
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and multiple concurrent programs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organizational leadership across multi-disciplinary engineering functions
- Advanced communication and stakeholder management skills, including executive-level communication
- Exceptional drive for results and ownership of complex execution
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills in ambiguous environments
