Position Summary
The Training Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving the manufacturing training and workforce development system for a high-complexity, low-volume medical device manufacturing operation. This role ensures employees are trained, qualified, and maintained in compliance with quality system requirements while supporting operational excellence, product quality, employee safety, regulatory compliance, and employee development.
Key Responsibilities
Training Strategy & Program Management
- Develop and execute the site's manufacturing training and development strategy aligned with business objectives, growth plans, quality requirements, and operational needs.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive training framework for production associates, technicians, engineers, supervisors, and support functions.
Skills Matrix & Workforce Capability Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain site-wide skills matrices for all manufacturing roles.
- Establish standards for proficiency levels, certification requirements, and requalification criteria.
Training Content Development
- Design and develop engaging training materials utilizing adult learning principles.
- Create training curricula, presentations, e-learning modules, practical exercises, qualification checklists, and knowledge assessments.
Qualification & Competency Management
- Establish and maintain standardized qualification processes for manufacturing processes, equipment, and critical operations.
- Implement methods to assess knowledge, practical skills, and operator proficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Organizational Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- 3+ years developing training systems, competency programs, and workforce development initiatives.
- Experience supporting medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, aerospace, or similarly regulated manufacturing organizations.
- Experience creating and managing skills matrices, qualification systems, and onboarding programs.
- Strong project management and change management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across multiple functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in medical device manufacturing.
- Knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations, ISO 13485, GMP, and Good Documentation Practices.
- Experience implementing Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Experience supporting high-mix, low-volume or high-complexity manufacturing environments.
- Professional certifications in training, instructional design, lean manufacturing, or quality systems.
Pay Transparency: A reasonable estimate of the annual base salary for this position is $95,000 - $125,000 + discretionary annual bonus.
