Position Summary
The Sommelier is responsible for curating and managing the restaurant’s wine program, including selection,
pairing, inventory, and staff education. This role enhances the guest dining experience by offering expert
wine recommendations tailored to the menu and individual preferences. The ideal candidate brings deep
wine knowledge, excellent hospitality skills, and a passion for creating memorable culinary experiences.
This position reports to the Restaurant Manager.

- Work with Restaurant or General Manager once a week to conduct wine tasting during pre-service
- Play integral role in the hiring and training of all new staff for the restaurant
- Assist in the daily maintenance including organization, restocking, wine cellar, wine fridge, wine
wall, to ensure it is current, clean and organized
- Ensure all wine lists are always current
- Constantly further your wine knowledge
wall, etc.
- Assist in the planning, organization and execution of all special wine events and promotions
- Benchmark and provide innovation on product, training, organization and systems as they relate to
not only wine service but the day-to-day operation of the restaurant
- Conduct monthly inventory working closely with wine director and accounting to resolve any
inconsistencies with accounting in a timely manner
- Complete tasks and projects delegated by your supervisor and assist other departments as
business volumes and staff levels demand
- Assist in emergency and security procedures as directed by management and the established
emergency plan
- Comply with all policies and procedures of Aspen One
- Other Duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements
- College preferred or hotel/restaurant training
- 3 years in a fine dining establishment
- Successful completion of advanced level of The Court of Master Sommeliers preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient knowledge in wine
- Knowledge of food and cooking methods
- Knowledge of F&B finance models as they relate to pricing, inventory COGS, analysis and
problem solving
- Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills English skills, spanish a plus
- Knowledge of food handling, safety and other restaurant guidelines
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to work under stressful circumstances
- Comfortable presenting and speaking in public to large groups
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, completing work at a high standard
- Ability to be a team player, working collaboratively with others
- Ability to develop strong working relationship with those contacted in the course of work
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time
- Regularly work in wet, hot and humid conditions for extended periods of time and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
- Must be able to occasionally lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance (weight limits can vary according to position, but no more than 50)
