Position Purpose:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Foreman, performs preventative maintenance and repairs to mechanical machinery and equipment at the wastewater treatment facility, pump stations, and CSO facilities. Assumes duties of a plant operator when necessary.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance functions.
  • Assists in inspection of plant and mechanical equipment for malfunctions and needed repairs.
  • Assists in performance of troubleshooting and repair work and determining repair methods.
  • Lubricates equipment and checks for malfunction.
  • Participates in cleaning and maintenance of machinery, equipment buildings and pump stations.
  • Assists in installation and set-up of new equipment.
  • Performs minor plumbing and pipe-fitting tasks.
  • Assists with using gas and/or arc welding equipment to heat, cut, braze, or weld.
  • Consults with Maintenance Foreman, Maintenance Manager, or equipment representatives on difficult or complicated repairs.
  • Performs clean up, painting, and adjustment of equipment.
  • Performs duties of an operator as required.
  • Performs Carpentry work.
  • Performs up-keep of structures and grounds.
  • Assists Road Crew when required.
  • Performs related work as required.

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Relevant Trade School education or equivalent experience preferred.
  • One year of experience working with mechanical equipment similar to that used in a wastewater treatment plant preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • General knowledge of the operation of equipment and the methods of maintenance and repair of machinery, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Ability to review written maintenance literature and accurately interpret manuals and drawings with minimum outside assistance.
  • Ability to perform basic use of hand tools.
  • Must posses a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must obtain a Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate issued by the State of Louisiana within one year of appointment to this position.
