About the Role
Capital Innovations Academy in Sacramento, CA is looking for a passionate and inspiring Music Teacher to join our team! This is a fantastic opportunity to shape young minds through the power of music in a a unique learning environment. If you love music and love working with teens, we want to hear from you!
We are seeking a new Music Teacher to teach on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 1:50-2:40 for $23-35/session based on experience, education, and skill. Our school year starts on August 19 and ends June 5. We would like to contract someone for the year (and hopefully the future as well!).
- Mon and Weds is music major. This is usually a group of 3-6 kids who want to really learn about music. They will have an instrument they are studying, typically piano, guitar, drums, or vocals. They will want to learn about how to play well as well as how to read music for that instrument if they don’t already know.
- Thursdays are rock band elective. This group (again around 3-6 kids) chooses songs, usually current popular ones to learn together and perform.
Responsibilities
- Overall, guide students in their music learning journey with enthusiasm, encouragement, and patience.
- Help students progress with vocal performance and/or instrumental techniques
- Assist students in learning how to read sheet music and/or tab (depending on the instrument)
- Help students with understanding and producing proper pitch, tone, and rhythm
- Instruct students in music theory
- Attend as well as help set up and take down for three performances per year.
- Assess and track student progress, providing constructive feedback and support
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment
- Manage classroom instruments, music materials, and the music room responsibly
Requirements
- Proficiency in at least piano or guitar
- Proficient in reading sheet music
- Ability to apply knowledge of music, tone, pitch, and rhythm to other instruments and voice instruction
- Experience in musical performance
- Ability to differentiate instruction for varied learning levels and styles
- Enthusiastic, student-centered approach to education
- Previous experience working with teens
- Ability to build rapport with teens while maintaining an appropriate teacher-student boundary
Preferred but not required:
- Prior classroom or student teaching experience preferred but not required
- AA or BA Degree in Music Education or a related field preferred but not required
