Job Description
Plan and perform a normal range of rough and finish turning, drilling, tapping, boring, facing, recessing, thread cutting andsimilar machining operations on a variety of shafts, housings heads, and parts of various ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys. Work from drawings, route sheets, specifications and instructions to determine operational sequence; set tools in cross slides or tail stock; select and set speeds and feeds according to the type of material and finish requirements; move selector lever or change gears for thread cutting.
Key Responsibilities/Complexities:
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as Mills, Lathes, saws or grinders.
- Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to
specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers
and Vernier calipers.
- Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in
order to perform precision machining operations. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools,
attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the
machining process.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Assure that work areas and equipment are maintained in clean and orderly condition; report and correct any
unsafe work practices or conditions immediately.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Typically requires 2-4 years’ machining experience including, but not limited to, set up and operation of various machine tools.
