# Veterinary Surgery Assistant

We're growing and increasing the number of daily surgeries, so we could use some extra help!

Position Summary

The Surgery Assistant is responsible for monitoring patients recovering from surgery, maintaining a clean and organized surgical environment, assisting with loading and unloading animal transport, and supporting the veterinary team to ensure excellent patient care and efficient daily operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Animal Care

• Monitor dogs and cats recovering from anesthesia on the recovery mats.
• Observe patients for any changes in condition and promptly notify veterinary staff of concerns.
• Organize and maintain cat carriers and humane traps.
• Assist with the care of hospitalized patients, including:
• Evening feeding
• Administering medications as directed
• Maintaining clean and comfortable patient housing

Transport

• Assist with loading animals for scheduled transports.
• Ensure carriers are secure, properly labeled, and safely handled.

Surgery Area Maintenance

• Maintain cleanliness of the surgery area throughout the day.
• Clean and disinfect counters and floors as needed.
• Perform end-of-day cleaning of the surgery suite, including: surgery tables, surgical lights, wash and put away dishes and equpiment

General Responsibilities

• Follow all safety, sanitation, and animal handling protocols.
• Work collaboratively with veterinarians and support staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support daily clinic operations.

Schedule

• 9:00 am - 6:30pm
• 30-minute lunch break.
• End time may vary based on patient care needs and completion of daily responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely handle dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced veterinary environment.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand, bend, and walk for extended periods.
• Dependable, organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Previous veterinary or animal care experience is preferred but not required.
