What You Will Do

Guidehouse is seeking an experienced Technical Writer – Senior to support a large-scale federal technology program operating within secure and classified environments. This role requires a skilled technical communications professional responsible for developing, editing, reviewing, and maintaining technical and program documentation supporting enterprise IT operations, modernization initiatives, and mission-critical services. The ideal candidate combines strong writing and editing skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and audience-appropriate documentation for technical, operational, and executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, review, and maintain technical documentation supporting enterprise technology programs and operations.
  • Create system documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), user guides, implementation guides, training materials, knowledge articles, and technical reports.
  • Support development of program deliverables, technical artifacts, engineering documentation, briefings, and status reports.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, developers, cybersecurity personnel, program managers, and operational staff to gather information and document technical processes.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear and concise written products for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure documentation follows established standards, templates, style guides, governance requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Support configuration management and document control processes to ensure accuracy and consistency across published materials.
  • Review technical content for completeness, clarity, accuracy, grammar, formatting, and alignment with program requirements.
  • Assist with preparation of executive briefings, presentation materials, operational updates, and stakeholder communications.
  • Support knowledge management and continuous improvement initiatives to improve documentation quality, accessibility, and usability.
  • Maintain documentation repositories and assist with organization of program records and artifacts.

What You Will Need

  • Active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain and maintain SCI eligibility.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Information Systems, Technical Writing, or a related discipline, or four (4) additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • SIX (6) or more years of experience creating technical documentation supporting complex information technology environments.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, SOPs, user guides, process documentation, or engineering artifacts.
  • Experience working with technical teams including software developers, engineers, cybersecurity professionals, or architects.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio.
  • Experience supporting secure, compliance-driven federal environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.

What Would Be Nice To Have

  • Experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, software development, cloud modernization, or cybersecurity programs.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, formatting, and document management skills.
  • Experience developing executive briefings, white papers, technical proposals, or operational reports.
  • Experience using SharePoint, Confluence, Jira, or knowledge management platforms.
  • Experience supporting Agile software development or technology modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-53, RMF, STIGs, ATO processes, and federal technology environments.
  • Experience developing process documentation, workflow diagrams, and training materials.
  • Experience supporting classified, national security, intelligence community, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Technical Writing certification or related professional certification.

The annual salary range for this position is $85,000.00-$141,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
