Timmons Group is currently looking for a full time Outside Plant Engineer (OSP Engineer) in Richmond, VA.. The OSP Engineer will be responsible for providing technical and engineering support for outside plant network operations and maintenance with a focus on fiber-based systems The candidate should have technical experience in outside plant design and working collaboratively with other departments.

  • The engineer will identify, analyze, diagnose, and resolve network issues, as well as coordinate with vendors and other personnel to ensure the successful deployment and maintenance of outside plant networks
  • Provide leadership and direction to OSP Engineer resources
  • Manage and design hundreds of miles of outside plant for a major network deployment
  • Ability to perform low level fiber engineering using GIS technology
  • Ability to perform field visits and network verifications
  • Experience in high level network design (splice and physical plant), and detailed engineering
  • Work with other departments to ensure make ready management, permitting and fielding meet OSP design criteria
  • Review permit and construction drawings for engineering integrity
  • Be able to review as-built plans and test results
  • Ability to work in ArcGIS/Pro, or QGIS environments
  • Maintain orderly records and project documents
  • Working knowledge of pole line design and fiber construction, both aerial and underground
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as needed
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field preferred and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience with OSP underground and aerial telecommunication leading and engineering preferred.
  • Understanding of network architecture and supporting equipment.
  • Strong understanding of outside plant engineering and construction
  • Knowledge of NESC and RUS construction code as it relates to telecommunications rules and regulations
  • Experience engineering in a GIS based program
  • Knowledge of the permitting requirements across local jurisdiction
  • Desktop and field quality control to support final client deliverable
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet project deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Valid driver’s license

Compensation: Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $38.46/hr.-$43.26/hr. This position is eligible for overtime. Offers are based on a range of job-related factors such as internal equity, experience, skills, education, credentials and role complexity.
