Full job description

The Senior Solid State NMR Scientist provides laboratory support in solid-state NMR (ssNMR) data collection and interpretation for pharmaceutical materials.

  • Apply ssNMR to characterize a broad range of pharmaceutical materials (crystalline and non-crystalline small molecule APIs, excipients, drug product intermediates, and drug products)
  • Apply quantitative ssNMR methods to measure components of APIs and drug products
  • Plan and perform experiments with minimal supervision
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Materials Science to define and implement characterization strategies
  • Solve scientific problems using contemporary Materials Science experimental techniques
  • Contribute to the development of new scientific approaches and knowledge within the Materials Science organization
  • Ensure contemporaneous and accurate entries are made in the electronic laboratory notebook system according to accepted good practice
  • Ph.D. degree in chemistry or equivalent field with expertise in ssNMR or a B.A./M.S degree in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field with 2-3+ years of ssNMR experience
  • Experience with ssNMR sample preparation, data acquisition, and interpretation of 1D and 2D spectra
  • Experience in solid state characterization techniques (such as x-ray powder diffraction, polarized light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, spectroscopy, etc.) is an advantage.
  • Experience and understanding of vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman) is an advantage.
  • Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Good organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • A strong interest and motivation to learn new technologies and concepts is expected.
  • Position is full-time, working Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00p.m overtime as needed
