Job Description
Position Overview The Education Facility Custodian provides essential cleaning and maintenance services to ensure a safe, functional, and inviting environment for the Clemson University community. This role requires a dedicated individual who takes pride in the appearance of the facility and understands the critical role of sanitation in an educational setting.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- General Cleaning: Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum hallways, stairs, office spaces, and classrooms.
- Sanitization: Clean and disinfect restrooms, drinking fountains, and high-touch surfaces (doorknobs, light switches, desks) using approved chemical cleaners.
- Floor Maintenance: Perform specialized floor care including stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet extraction as scheduled.
- Waste Management: Collect and dispose of trash and recycling; ensure all bins are lined and sanitized.
- Restocking: Monitor and replenish paper towels, soap, and other essential supplies throughout the facility.
- Facility Safety: Identify and report building repairs, plumbing leaks, or safety hazards to the supervisor immediately.
- Event Support: Assist with the moving of furniture and equipment for classroom reconfigurations or special university events.
- Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, including the proper handling of hazardous materials and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for the duration of the shift.
- Capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and the safe operation of custodial equipment (vacuums, floor buffers, etc.).
- Strong reliability and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication skills to interact professionally with students, faculty, and staff.
