As a Health Coach at Virta you’ll work directly with Virta members to support weight loss and reverse metabolic disease. We're looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals to join our top-notch, mission-driven team. If that sounds like your dream job, we’d love to tell you more about it!
# Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based nutrition and behavior change coaching, using behavior change principles to help members improve their metabolic health. Guide members in understanding how nutrition, daily habits, and health data, including metabolic markers, work together to inform personalized decisions and sustainable lifestyle change.
- Deliver high-quality, personalized coaching through chat and telephonic interactions that engages members, supports lasting behavior change, and helps them achieve meaningful health outcomes.
- Help members interpret their health data, including nutrition, metabolic markers, and other available insights, to better understand their body's response to lifestyle changes, build confidence, and make informed decisions about their health.
- Empathize, connect, and partner with members to support long-term success and sustainable behavior change.
- Keep members engaged and support retention by using quality coaching techniques, including motivational interviewing and member-centered goal setting.
- Follow established clinical workflows and processes while accurately documenting member interactions, outreach, and progress.
- Collaborate with Virta Providers and other members of the care team to deliver seamless, tailored care that promotes member safety and success.

# 90 Day Plan
- Complete onboarding training to gain proficiency in navigating tools and resources, understanding the fundamentals of Virta’s approach for improving metabolic health, mastering member onboarding and engagement strategies, and effectively applying behavior change coaching techniques to drive member success.
- Starting working with your own Virta members, including conducting member onboarding calls and day to day member care.
- Learn the various platforms and tools needed to perform your day to day job.
- Learn and understand what key performance indicators (KPIs) are used to track health coach performance and how your day to day work impacts those metrics.
- Actively contribute to team culture, learning, and overall process improvements by providing regular continuous feedback.
- Take time to connect with and proactively get to know fellow Virtans; various leaders/teammates/teams/roles. Learn, adopt, support, and help live out the Virtan Values.
# Must-Haves
- 2 years of experience working with patients directly to create plans and set goals; including but not limited to chronic condition/metabolic health coaching, outpatient nutrition counseling, motivational interviewing, community health, weight loss and/or bariatric centers, using and/or implementing various behavior change techniques,, health counseling, mental health counseling, etc
- Health coaching experience OR recent completion of a coaching program, ideally NBHWC or ICF.
- Associate’s, Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a health, behavioral health or other related field.
- Ability to safely, responsibly, and effectively use digital platforms and AI-enabled tools to provide remote care, enhance efficiency, and communicate with teammates. Proficient with texting, phone calls, video chats, instant messaging, Google Workspace applications, Slack, Zoom, and strong typing skills.
- High EQ and empathy with the ability to work with different personalities through times of change. Willing to ask for help and lean on teammates for support when needed.
- Highly motivated, strong organizational skills, and an attention to detail to support your day to day workflow and help you stay on track during frequent and rapid iteration.
- Passionate about working directly with members in the metabolic health space and willing to help others as a frontline care provider.
- Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Demonstrates critical thinking, clinical judgment, and creativity in identifying and solving problems, keeping the goals and what is best for the member
- Effective Communication: Personalized, clear, concise, and empathetic communication through various modes. Able to adjust communication style to fit the individual/audience.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborates and shares knowledge, experience and best practices with others, willing to support the team where needed. Takes advantage of opportunities to learn from others as well.
- Planning and Accountability: Ability to create plans, set goals, and hold individuals accountable to drive behavior change. Connect actions to progress and adjust plans/approaches as needed.
- Comfort with Ambiguity: Comfortable working in changing conditions or when there is not a clear approach/information may be lacking. Demonstrates judgment and creativity is getting curious to gather information to execute.
# Nice-to-Have Skills
- Professional experience working with people living with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and/or other metabolic health conditions.
- Experience coaching in the asynchronous and telephonic setting.
- Experience using a ketogenic diet/low carb nutrition as a therapeutic approach.
- Experience working with members using MI/foundational coaching skills.
- NBC-HWC or ICF certification
