Aviation Senior Project Manager – Airfield Construction

AECOM is seeking an experienced Aviation Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex airfield construction projects at commercial service airports that will be based in Denver, CO. This role is responsible for managing construction-phase execution of airfield programs, serving as the primary client interface, and ensuring safe, compliant, and operationally sound delivery within active airfield environments. The position requires deep experience with airfield construction, phasing, and stakeholder coordination in live airport settings.
Job Description
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as the Senior Project Manager for airfield construction projects, with full responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk management through project closeout.
- Lead construction-phase services for airfield projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, shoulders, airfield drainage, lighting, signage, and associated civil infrastructure.
- Act as the primary point of contact between AECOM, airport clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies throughout construction execution.
- Manage construction phasing and sequencing to support uninterrupted airport operations, coordinating closely with airport operations, planning, security, and airline stakeholders.
- Oversee contractor performance, progress, and compliance with contract documents, safety requirements, and airport operational constraints.
- Review and manage baseline schedules, phasing plans, and look-ahead schedules to mitigate impacts to airfield operations and maintain critical milestones.
- Lead constructability reviews focused on airfield staging, access, safety, and operational continuity.
- Proactively identify, manage, and resolve construction issues, change orders, and claims to minimize client exposure and maintain project momentum.
- Direct inspection, testing, and quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with FAA, airport authority, and project-specific standards.
- Support project controls functions including cost tracking, forecasting, progress payment review, and reporting.
- Mentor and oversee project staff including construction managers, inspectors, and support personnel.
- Ensure compliance with applicable FAA requirements, airport standards, safety management systems (SMS), and environmental and labor regulations.
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Senior-level experience managing airfield construction programs at commercial service airports.
- Progressive experience managing aviation construction projects, with direct involvement in airfield construction within active airport environments.
- Proven experience serving as a project or construction manager on complex, multi-stakeholder aviation projects.
- Demonstrated experience with runway, taxiway, and apron construction phasing in operational airfields.
- Strong understanding of FAA airfield construction standards, airport operational requirements, and safety protocols.
- Experience managing contractor claims, change management, and schedule recovery on aviation projects.
- CCM, PMP, or similar professional certification.
- Experience working with large airport capital improvement programs.
