The Scientist I will be an integral part of the Analytical Development team in the Operations, Product Development Science and Technology, Biologics division with a focus on advancing AbbVie’s pre-clinical and early clinical programs. The individual will play a key role in supporting process development through robust and agile analytical characterization. The individual will also play a key role in analytical method development, troubleshooting, and technical report writing. Close collaboration with technical product teams, other analytical teams, bioprocess development and manufacturing teams, and R&D teams is a key aspect of this role to meet business objectives and program milestones.
Responsibilities
- Independently execute analytical testing to generate reliable and consistent results using separations-based techniques (HPLC, icIEF, CE-SDS) to characterize biopharmaceutical products.
- Troubleshoot analytical issues and design, develop, and optimize robust analytical methods.
- Participate in cross-functional project meetings and coordinate analytical activities that need to be supported in the Analytical Development team for pipeline programs.
- Implement and innovate new experimental protocols/techniques to improve method performance and efficiency and/or expand analytical capabilities.
- Identify, respond to, and/or address technical issues in a timely manner.
- Read and adapt relevant scientific literature to work areas.
- Share technical information and learnings from internal initiatives and external conferences with broader team and relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate lab notebook records and ensure data integrity and full traceability.
- Support and promote established lab safety and 5S organization workflows and procedures.
- Responsible for compliance with all applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education with typically 5 years of experience, or Master’s Degree or equivalent education with typically two years of experience.
- Strong understanding of protein biochemistry and analytical method development, optimization, and qualification principles.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (e.g., Agilent HPLC systems, Maurice, PA800 systems).
- Experience collaborating with process development teams to align analytical strategies with project timelines and goals.
- Experience using automation to standardize high-throughput workflows.
- Experience with electronic systems for data analysis and reporting, including utilizing statistical tools.
- Proven ability to work efficiently and achieve deliverables within short timelines.
- Proven ability to adjust accordingly in response to dynamic priorities and/or urgent initiatives.
- Capable of providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior scientists and laboratory staff.
