The Multispecifics Engineering group at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join a dynamic team supporting biologics drug discovery and multispecifics engineering. This position will impact projects through the design and production of biopharmaceutical products. The ideal candidate should have strong experience with multispecifics production and characterization. Other desirable skills include experience with antibody engineering, protein expression and purification expertise, and sequence analysis tools. The applicant should be able to analyze, document, and report data. She/he should possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable presenting in group settings.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain mammalian cell lines and optimize conditions
- Design multispecifics for production
- Prep DNA, express, and purify multispecific biologics to meet project team needs
- Help maintain DNA and protein inventory for group
- Prepare aliquots and plates for various assay and project teams and coordinate handoffs
- Generate production reports and keep lab notebooks up to date
- Present data at project team meetings and at internal meetings or conferences
- BS or MS in biology or related field with 5+ years (BS), or 2+ years (MS) of pharmaceutical and/or relevant experience
- Experience with bacterial and mammalian cell culture
- Experience with protein, biologics, fragments, and multi-specifics purification
- Experience with SEC, HIC, IEX purification utilizing AKTAs
- Experience with in vitro analytical techniques for protein characterization (e.g. SEC, MS, DSF)
- Experience with plasmid prep, molecular cloning
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organization skills and the ability to execute on multiple projects simultaneously
- Team player with the ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment
- Adapt to rapid changes in project priorities and timelines
- Competency with software programs, including MS Excel, Powerpoint, Word

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating automation equipment (e.g. Hamilton, AssayMap, Kingfisher) in biologics discovery processes
- Experience with setup and management of biologics and DNA inventory systems such as Freezerpro
- CHO expression experience including optimizing conditions and plasmid ratios for multispecifics
- Experience with ELISA, FACS
- Expereince with mass spectrometry interpretation for complex biologics
- Experience with the software programs Geneious, Genedata, PMI, and Unicorn
- Experience with CRO coordination
