Job Description Summary:
This position manages the Sanitation Department operations to maintain all manufacturing, packing and distribution center facilities in a clean and food-safe condition. This position oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of the sanitation programs to meet company standards, SQF, FDA, State, and Local, regulatory requirements., including management of our integrated pest management program. Responsible for Department safety, budgeting, purchasing, cost control, and all aspects of personnel management in accordance with the Union Contract.
The pay range for this position is expected to be $105-$118k annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Job Description
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee, coordinate, and schedule all sanitation activities performed by the Sanitation and Operations staff in a way that maximizes efficiency, productivity, and safety of all Sanitation and Operations employees while fostering a team environment. Supervise in accordance with the Union contract.
- Provide leadership, training, and supervision to ensure all Sanitation activities are carried out safely and in accordance with See’s safety policies, procedures, and safe work rules. Ensure all safety incidents and near misses are timely reported and investigated. Participate in daily / weekly / monthly safety activities and meetings.
- Supervise the process of cleaning and sanitizing all manufacturing, processing, and warehousing areas. Identify, report, and resolve conditions or practices that compromise personal safety, food safety, or overall sanitation effectiveness.
- Monitor and verify the effectiveness of the sanitation processes through daily Pre and Post sanitation inspections. Work with the QA Department to coordinate, monitor and correct environmental deficiencies discovered through vital data trends and documentation.
- Provide continuous improvement training of Sanitation Department staff in safe and effective sanitation practices. Supervise the training of employees undergoing department classification Training.
- Develop and ensure compliance with all Sanitation Standard Operating procedures (SSOPs), Sanitation Checklists, Forms, and the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
- Manage 3rd party suppliers in the areas of Pest Control and Cleaning Chemicals to achieve an agreed service and performance levels Ensure all required training, programs and documentation are in place, current, and effective.
- Implement and provide leadership in administering See's Safety and daily exercise programs. Participate and lead various meetings and employee training seminars, including department meetings, Hazard Communications, and Blood borne Pathogens Training.
- Counsel employees, as needed, concerning attendance, performance, policies, procedures, and safety in accordance with the Union contract.
- Maintain proper documentation of programs including Pest Control, Daily Cleaning Checklist, Master Sanitation Schedule, Training Records, and Chemical Inventory etc.
- Manage the effectiveness of the sanitation programs of the packing plants and distribution centers.
- Participate in the bi-monthly Food Safety audits performed by the cross functional management team. Document findings in responsibility and follow up on corrective actions.
- Ensure facilities are always audit-ready.
- Supports implementation of new methods, procedures, and systems to improve quality and food safety. Responsible for leading Food Safety and Quality efforts with the designated SQF Practitioner.
- Responsible for execution and adherence to all pre-requisite programs including the food security/defense program.
- In the absence of the Sanitation Manager, the Sanitation Supervisor will assume plant responsibility under the leadership and guidance of the Plant Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 5-years’ experience in management of a Sanitation or similar Department in a major food processing facility or related field.
- Excellent management, communication, and organizational skills. Proven ability to provide proactive leadership, motivation and supervision to employees at all levels. Experience in a Union environment preferred.
- Knowledge of pest control, equipment and facility cleaning procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Experience with GFSI 3rd party audit (AIB, SQF, BRC etc.) preferred.
- Intermediate PC skills including MS Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook) required.
- Experience administering a Hazardous Communication Program and "Right to Know" training.
- Experience building and managing a Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and FDA Regulations.
- Able to work- day, swing, and night shifts, weekends, and Holidays as needed. Christmas holiday season (3 months) regularly requires swing and night shift schedules.
- Bi-lingual English-Spanish or English-Chinese preferred.
The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, in addition to a full range of generous medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
