Job Description

Reporting to the VP- EHSS, the Director, Sustainability will provide corporate guidance for Social Responsibility, Community Relations, and Indigenous Affairs. The successful candidate will have experience in directing and supporting mine operations and projects. The role is responsible for establishing standards and systems to enable the business to meet its strategic goals for community

relations and social performance. It also includes working in a collaborative manner in the development of the annual Sustainability Report and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting.

The role will require a multi-disciplinary knowledge relating to environmental management, community relations, and international conventions/ standards and sustainability.

The Day-to-Day

  • Develop and provide guidance for enterprise-level community engagement plans, standards, and systems for implementation at corporate, operational and project levels.
  • Review and assess corporate and site conformance and performance against enterprise-level policies, standards, and systems for community relations and social performance.
  • Review and assess corporate and site compliance and performance against external sustainability initiatives and commitments.
  • Lead a collaborative effort in the development of annual Sustainability Report and ESG reporting.
  • As necessary, oversee the work of external sustainability consultants to ensure the timeliness and quality of project deliverables conforms to the identified scope of work.
  • Oversee ESG performance management in conjunction with senior and site leadership to maintain robust ESG ratings.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to foster a culture of continuous improvement specific to community engagement and sustainability.
  • Implement innovative approaches to advance Sustainability goals across SSR’s global footprint.
  • Build and maintain programs for community and stakeholder engagement to build a positive impact.
  • Provide due diligence and guidance specific to Sustainability issues for transactional matters, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, real property sales, new site development and site decommissioning and closure activities.
  • Be a collaborative member of a high-performing team that delivers results to the business.

Is This You?

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in management, environment or sustainability relevant disciplines
  • Graduate degree with international experience preferred.
  • Multilingual a positive.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of related experience. Comprehensive knowledge of global environmental and sustainability reporting requirements
  • Ability to work in virtual cross-regional and cross-functional teams, translate
  • complex situations into simple working solutions, manage complexity, collaborate with all levels of leadership and influence decision-making across a matrix organization.
  • Expert technical knowledge in community engagement and Sustainability
  • disciplines.
  • Strong negotiation and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Mature business skills such as ability to organize, lead, motivate and support networks of functional teams at multiple, geographically dispersed locations.
  • Capable of establishing effective relationships and interfaces with key partners, stakeholders, and professionals.
  • Proven ability to focus on long term strategic growth goals while simultaneously managing short term tactical objectives.
  • Innovator with a sense of urgency thriving in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Extensive experience partnering with cross-functional business leaders.
  • Ability to build trust and credibility and effectively influence the best outcomes for the organization while focusing on providing/delivering the overall global strategy.
  • Bring a creative approach to problem solving, with a humble, collaborative, and optimistic attitude.
  • Have strong verbal and written presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way and to tailor key messages and presentation style to multiple audiences.
  • Be comfortable working in ambiguity and easily adapt to change.
  • Critical thinker with success in developing innovative solutions to business issues.
  • Ability to travel up to 50

For applicants residing in CO, the salary range for this role is from $200,000-$220,000. Benefits: 401(k); medical/dental/vision insurance; employee share purchase plan, PTO, STI and LTI.
