Union Tank Car Company is seeking new employees at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Altoona, PA to assist in various departments as needed by plant production. The Company’s regulatory, engineering and commercial expertise make UTLX the preferred source of railcars and services for many of its customers. Owned by the Marmon Group and Berkshire Hathaway, UTLX headquarters is in Chicago’s financial district, close to major public transportation hubs. We are looking for a 1st shift Exterior Sprayer to coat tank cars and provide finished products based on customer specifications. The rate of pay for this role will be $27.68-$28.68.

Primary Job Functions

• Removes all protective car coverings, blows trucks and other car parts clean and inspects the car to ensure that it has not been damaged.
• Selects coatings following work specifications and prepares equipment for spraying.
• Masks off components such as valves, trucks, couplers, or areas of the surface not to be sprayed.
• Mixes coatings according to specifications and applies the coating to install or repair a section of a coating using airless spray equipment. This may be to an exterior or interior of a tank or hopper car.
• Cleans and maintains spraying equipment.
• Maintains equipment and replenishes the short supply.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Must possess a High School Diploma/GED; or have the ability to successfully complete an on-site skills assessment.
• Must possess job-related knowledge; for example, ability to follow work instructions on a document, ability to read a ruler and tape measure, ability to use hand tools.
• Must be dependable and maintain good attendance; must have reliable transportation; must be able to work scheduled work shifts including overtime.
• Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment drug & alcohol testing, position-specific examinations, background screening, and education verifications.

Environmental and Working Conditions

• Moderate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to car to perform operation. Climbs, walks, and balances on top of car while working.
• May work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection.
• Possibility of exposure to x-ray radiation hazards.
• Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury.
