Job Title

Facilities Engineer II

The Facilities Engineer II is responsible for performing and/or project management of capital facilities and/or construction projects, and specialized facilities engineering work. Areas may include, but are not limited to, activities related to the maintenance, repair and modification of equipment controls/communications, electrical/electronic systems, special systems/processes, or mechanical devices and equipment. This role leads initiatives that improve equipment uptime, reduce unplanned downtime, and strengthen asset lifecycle management through data-driven reliability strategies and capital project execution.

This position plays a critical role in advancing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) by supporting Planned Maintenance systems, driving focused improvement activities, and partnering with Operations to enhance equipment ownership and performance.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Under minimal supervision, the Facilities Engineer II is responsible for supporting utility systems, maintenance operations, and capital project execution to ensure equipment uptime and overall facility reliability.
  • This role will lead and support predictive, preventive, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM/TPM) programs, including development of maintenance strategies, check sheets, predictive techniques, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment performance.
  • Provides advice and consultation to Management Team regarding facilities engineering matters, including compliance with federal/state laws and regulations; coordinates facilities engineering project activities with other departments; prepares data and documents for use during governmental or customer inquiries and audits.
  • Serve as a key technical resource for facilities and maintenance, working closely with Operations, Engineering, and EHS to improve equipment uptime, troubleshoot issues, and support manufacturing processes.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, production, and purchasing teams to plan materials, coordinate schedules, and support capital projects from concept through execution, including budgeting, vendor management, and project reporting.
  • Negotiates, administers, interprets and/or enforces purchase orders for specialized facilities work such as water utility, backflow prevention, alarm systems, or other, etc.; performs engineering project management work to include preparing budgets, project execution, resolving work problems, recommending contract change orders, preparing progress reports, and reviewing invoices/authorizing payments.
  • Oversee maintenance and modification of computerized process control systems, maintenance management systems, and the facilities change notice procedure.
  • Utilize strong technical expertise to support CAD/3D design work, system layout, and facility improvements, and contribute to programming or system-level troubleshooting (e.g., controls, HMI, or building systems as needed). Apply data analysis and Excel skills to monitor performance, track reliability metrics, and support decision-making.
  • Coordinates with Operations and Process Engineering to assign project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project, such as technical studies, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and testing; recommends teams of trades and operators needed.
  • Applies working knowledge of principals, practices and procedures of the facilities engineering discipline in order to review and comment on engineering project work plans prepared by outside consultants for conformance to CoorsTek standards and specifications, and in the preparation of a variety of technical facilities engineering reports and analyses for presentation to management team.
  • Determines feasibility and/or design of new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities, considering costs, available space, time limits, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Recommends work equipment and maintenance standards, procedures and performance criteria for ongoing planned activities; may help to define training needs for maintenance and operations personnel, such as trade skills enhancement, related to maintenance standards and procedures.
  • Prepares budget request for work unit; estimates staffing and capital equipment needs based on recent trends and planned activities; monitors expenditures after budget adoption; submits or approves requisitions for purchase of materials and supplies.
  • Coordinates with the purchasing functions for the planning and procurement of equipment, tooling, purchased parts, related materials, supplies and services as required executing the facilities projects and master plan.
  • Optimizes all purchases as a major way to reduce costs.
  • Partners with EHS, Maintenance, Operations and Engineering to support multi-disciplinary demands of the Manufacturing processes and operations.
  • Assists and/or performs in any and all areas as assigned.
  • May work any and all shifts/days as required.

Job Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in facilities engineering, maintenance, or manufacturing environment

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong technical background in facilities, utilities, and/or industrial systems (mechanical, electrical, or chemical preferred)
  • Experience with equipment uptime, reliability engineering, TPM, and preventive maintenance programs
  • Proven project management experience (capital projects, contractor management, budgeting)
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams
  • Proficiency with CAD or 3D design tools (preferred)
  • Experience with process control systems, building management systems, or HMI/controls programming (preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills with Excel and data tracking for performance/reliability metrics
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP (S/4HANA preferred) or similar platforms
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent oral/written communications (including writing clear reports), organizational expertise, and team building/effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds

Additional Details

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, typically 8:00am–5:00pm
  • Travel: Up to 10% (occasional travel to other sites)
  • Growth Opportunity: This role offers strong development potential into a more senior-level engineering position, with exposure to broader project management and global facility support initiatives

Target Hiring Range

Annual Salary: USD 92,000.00 - USD 121,440.00
