A Day in the Life

Medical Surgical is home to some of the most exciting technologies in Medtronic’s portfolio — and with that comes a fast‐moving mix of innovation, commercial activity, and regulatory complexity. We’re looking for a Principal Paralegal who can keep pace with an exciting business area, partner closely with our Legal Director and broader Medical Surgical Legal team, and become a trusted go‐to resource for teams who rely on timely, practical, and well‐grounded legal support.

The Principal Paralegal role is for someone who is analytical, has strong attention to detail, is an excellent communicator, collaborative, customer-focused and enjoys working on multiple issues and projects simultaneously. This person will be part of an operating unit (OU) legal team working on a variety of day-to-day legal issues and programs that support the portfolio, including meeting with business clients to provide solutions and direction, assisting on business development activities, complex contracting, litigation support and overseeing work directed to Centers of Expertise (COEs) or other areas. The role requires a high level of responsiveness to business stakeholders in a large, dynamic and fast-paced environment and involves frequent contact with business personnel in a variety of functions to gather information, clarify objectives, and assess compliance with company policies. This onsite role can reside in Minneapolis, MN, Boston, MA, North Haven, CT or Jacksonville, FL.

  • Serve as the key link between the legal team, business partners, outside counsel, and other stakeholders
  • Draft, review, and redline legal agreements that reside within the portfolio
  • Ensure agreements and contract terms are consistent with Medtronic policies and with legal, regulatory and compliance advice
  • Act as a liaison to business personnel, responding to routine questions and, where necessary, seeking feedback from additional resources needed to respond to questions
  • Work closely with business functions to understand their needs and streamline legal processes
  • Conduct legal and compliance research as directed by OU attorneys

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of relevant paralegal experience to include experience drafting, redlining and negotiating contracts; or, an advanced degree with 5+ years of experience

  • Paralegal degree or certificate
