About The Opportunity

The Quality Lead – in Open Foods ensures that all finished goods produced meet customer specifications and requirements by effectively training Quality Team members and leading their work, as well as enforcing compliance with GMPs and internal SOPs. This position is responsible for participating in, facilitating, or performing audits to ensure customer conformance to specifications and that expectations are met.

Essential Functions:

  • Thoroughly understand and be able to perform regular Food Safety and Quality Audits for Open Foods and Closed Foods production lines within the HACCP Flow Process.
  • Understanding of HACCP and Critical Control Points as it relates to Ready to Eat (RTE) Foods and Primary Packaging.
  • Train Quality Team in their functions and line audits per specific customer and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure and manage proper distribution of workload for Quality Team
  • Follow, train, and enforce company processes and procedures
  • Thorough understanding of Environmental Monitoring Program; including swabbing protocols, completing corrective actions, trending, and documentation of EMP results.
  • Print/Coordinate print code dates and distribute for shift as necessary
  • Perform investigations to help determine possible root causes for Production variances, HACCP Deviations and EMP results.
  • Document, control and contain any non-conforming customer inbound food, packaging, and Finished Food based on Food Safety and Quality regulatory standards and /or customer specifications.
  • Responsible for verification of work packets, line checks, and QA documentation (based on customer specifications and regulatory requirements)
  • Prepare, Submit, and ship samples and paperwork to outside laboratories and customers as necessary
  • Coordinate ordering of QA supplies, lab supplies, environmental swabs, ATP swabs and Allergen swabs.
  • Sign off on all HACCP documentation daily.
  • Coordinate rework process and partner with Operations team to ensure procedures are documented and executed properly, both systematically and physically.
  • Will provide coverage in the absence of the QA Supervisor to ensure adequate sources are available to achieve food safety objectives and support the development, implementation, maintenance and on-going improvement of the SQF system
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management/supervisors

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • Some College or completion of Associates or Bachelor’s Degree or training in Quality and Food Science and Certifications (HACCP, Environmental) (Desired)

Work Experience:

  • 3-5 years of related experience or training (Required)
  • 5+ years of Experience (Desired)

  • Safety sensitive position – ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required based upon the needs of the business

  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide variety of roles
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with individuals associated with subject matter, as well as communicate findings to other quality representatives

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple and/or complex/highly detailed tasks
  • Must be detail oriented and pay close attention to accuracy
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding and communicate accurately to carry out detailed instructions (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to analyze information gathered in order to maintain accurate and detailed records using both computerized and manual means
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely in written, verbal and electronic formats
  • Ability to independently, or with minimum supervision, write routine reports, correspondence and prepare various levels of documents and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain very effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to perform all computer functions as they pertain to this job
  • Ability to read and write using the English language

The expected salary range for this position is $22/hour. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan and for a full benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; basic term life, AD&D, Short- and Long-term disability; EAP; 401(k) retirement savings plan; PTO and paid holidays.
