The Hardware and Systems Design Engineering team at Form is focused on designing the battery cell, module, and pack system that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory. Dimensional management is a key enabler to meeting these design objectives.
We're hiring an experienced Staff Mechanical Engineer reporting to the Lead Dimensional Engineer, you will serve as the primary technical partner and execution lead for dimensional engineering standards and interface controls across our hardware teams. This is a hands-on Staff-level role within the Dimensional Engineering team, designed for an expert who will own the tactical implementation of our dimensional strategy. You will act as the central support for standard operating procedures, driving the organizational adoption of ASME Y14.5-2018 and managing the standards process across all departments. What you'll do
- Process & Standards Ownership: Define and maintain the standard operating procedures for dimensional management, serving as the primary administrator of the engineering standards process
- Standards Governance: Support the adoption and rigorous application of ASME Y14.5-2018 standards across Hardware, and Integration teams
- Cross-Departmental Management: Own critical tolerance analysis workflows and drive the resolution of complex interface trade-offs to ensure manufacturability and serviceability
- Mentorship: Act as an internal subject matter expert, coaching engineering teams on GD&T best practices
What you'll bring:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 8+ years of industry experience in mechanical design, GD&T, interface control, and dimensional management
- Proven ability to build, manage, and scale engineering standards processes within a production-environment
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to manage standards across diverse, cross-functional teams (Design, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain)
- Experience working with a production manufacturing team and solving problems through dimensional management
- Demonstrated experience optimizing mechanical designs ensure 100% first time yield on assembly processes
- Direct experience in product development within an early-stage environment
