Company Overview

Department Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented R56 Site Auditor to travel across our 9 state territory (AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN). The primary purpose of this role is to inspect communications sites for compliance with the Motorola Solutions "Standards and Guidelines for Communication Sites" (R56) manual. R56 compliance is critical in ensuring the life safety of personnel, maximizing system and equipment reliability, and verifying compliance with the National Electrical Code® (NEC) and other applicable industry standards (e.g., NFPA, IEEE, ANSI). This role also includes supporting the Field Engineering team through active cross-training and assistance with departmental duties as needed.

Job Description

  • Comprehensive Site Inspections: Conduct thorough audits across various site types, including prefabricated equipment shelters, commercial dispatch centers, and co-located towers to ensure compliance with the Motorola Solutions "Standards and Guidelines for Communication Sites" (R56) manual.
  • Systematic Evaluation: Audit all critical R56 disciplines, including Building Design, External Grounding and Bonding, Internal Bonding and Grounding, Power Sources, Surge Protective Devices (SPDs), and Equipment Installation.
  • Hazard Identification: Identify and report all known life safety issues, regardless of the responsible party. You will also look for and document issues that can impact system availability, such as leaking roofs, security vulnerabilities, generator leaks, or electrical panel problems.
  • Digital Reporting & Documentation: Electronically document and submit R56 Audit forms. You will be responsible for photographing and documenting project and non-project-related failures with adequate technical details
  • Technical Testing: Perform hands-on site measurements, including verifying bonding continuity and grounding electrode system resistance using a clamp-on ohmmeter. You will also test for objectionable AC/DC current using clamp-on ammeters and verify AC receptacles for proper wiring, voltage drops, and equipment grounding conductor integrity.
  • Independent Assessment: Complete the technical details of the audit objectively, using the R56 manual as your primary source of information, without internal or external influence.
  • Maintain an in-depth, working knowledge of applicable NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and ANSI standards across all commercial projects. Document and report electrical defects, insulation degradation, and signs of galvanic corrosion in commercial facilities.
  • Support the Field Engineering team through active cross-training and assistance with departmental duties as needed.

Required Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Industry Certification: Must hold or be eligible to obtain the ETA® International Communication Site Inspector / Auditor (CSIA) certification. Certification must be acquired within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Prerequisite Certification: Must hold or be eligible to obtain the ETA Associate Certified Electronics Technician (CETa) certification, which is a required prerequisite for the CSIA Journeyman option.
  • Foundational Knowledge: Must have a strong background in and knowledge of basic electricity, electronics, and familiarity with the layout and function of communications sites.
  • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the assigned 9 state territory to perform on-site audits. Willing to travel extensively as needed (>75%). Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Clearance: Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers.

Required Technical Skills & Tools:

  • Proficiency with a variety of required audit test equipment, including clamp-on ground resistance testers, AC/DC clamp-on ammeters, digital voltmeters (DVM), receptacle testers (e.g., Amprobe INSP-3), tape measures, wire gauge measurement tools, and light/temperature/humidity meters.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and verify site as-built diagrams and grounding electrode system designs.
  • Strong understanding of single-point grounding concepts, neutral-ground bonding, and the proper application of Type 2A/2B and Type 3 Surge Protective Devices.
  • Keen eye for detail to spot proper mechanical execution of work, such as verifying minimum bending radii of cables, proper lug attachments, and the prevention of galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals.
