Responsibilities

The baker’s helper is responsible for the bakeshop operation with an emphasis on production, operations and special events. The primary responsibility of the baker’s helper is to provide the highest quality of service to customers at all times. Specifically, they will function as a Baker’s Helper in Claflin on Monday, Thursday & Friday. Saturday & Sunday they will work as a Grill Cook at Bates kitchen. Other responsibilities include transformation of bulk mixes etc. to oven ready form following standard recipes and procedures, assisting with the finishing of products and shipping duties of number four. The Baker’s Helper will be required to operate a variety of shop equipment and appliances in the preparation and service of the bakeshop products. The Baker’s Helper is required to participate in daily cleaning and in other duties as assigned by manager or lead baker on duty. Lastly, the Baker’s Helper will comply with all state and local food service regulations, including practicing ServSafe and NSF standards.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Individual must possess current ServSafe certifications or equivalent documentation. Individual must have training in baking specifically in cake decorating. Individual will be required to successfully complete a written and practical exam relative to the position. Must have reliable transportation.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer’s sponsorship now or in the future

This position has been classified as essential personnel. In the event of inclement weather or other emergency conditions that require the College to close, you are expected to report to work if you are scheduled to work that day, in accordance with Article 8.1.f of the Independent Service and Maintenance Union contract.

Position Details:

Days Off: Tuesday and Wednesday

Hours: Monday, Thursday & Friday- 6:30am-3:30pm (Claflin Bakers Helper - 24 hours)

Saturday & Sunday- 10:15am-7:15pm (Display Cook) (16 hours)

Total: 40 hours

Salary

Please note, this role will be paid in accordance with the wage progression schedule set forth by the IMSEUA CBA contract.

Start at 80%, $22.88/hr (Baker's Helper) & $27.02/hr (Display Cook)

Then go to 90% after 120 days, $25.74/hr (Baker's Helper) $30.40 (Display Cook)

Then 100% at one year anniversary, $28.60 (Bakers Helper) & $33.78 (Display Cook)
