Position Summary

This position is affiliated with AgNext at Colorado State University. AgNext is a collaborative research program that develops science-based solutions to make animal agriculture more sustainable, efficient, and environmentally responsible.

Description of Work Unit:

The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment to integrate farm-level data (e.g., production, health, management) with environmental and air quality datasets, enabling a systems-level understanding of livestock operations. Research efforts will include designing and deploying sensor networks, modeling airflow and contaminant dynamics in dairy facilities, and evaluating intervention strategies to enhance air quality and sustainability outcomes.

Essential Job Duties

  • Design and implement environmental monitoring systems (e.g., air quality, GHG emissions, particulates, temperature, humidity).
  • Integrate multi-source datasets including sensors, farm records, weather data, and behavioral monitoring platforms.
  • Develop and apply data analytics, modeling, and visualization tools to interpret complex livestock system data.
  • Collaborate on projects related to sustainability, animal health, and workforce safety.
  • Contribute to grant writing and interdisciplinary research proposals.
  • Support extension and outreach efforts, translating research into practical tools for producers and stakeholders.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific and industry conferences.

Supervision

  • The successful candidate will mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.

Conditions of Employment

  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for all new hires).
  • Valid driver's license by employment start date.
  • Authorized to work in the United States by employment start date.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited institution by start date of employment.
  • Demonstrated success in publishing.
  • Experience with air quality monitoring and date analyses.
  • Experience with beef and/or dairy cattle systems and sustainability.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a driver's license or access to a licensed driver by start date

Preferred Qualifications

  • Publication record in peer reviewed journals.
  • Experience in leading projects through to publication.
  • Experience with project and team management.

Salary Range

$60,000-$70,000
