Role Description
Form Energy is hiring a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of LV and HV harness mechanical architecture for large battery systems. This role reports to the HV & LV Systems Design team. As part of our team, you will lead wire harness mechanical routing, connector selection, cable specification, and 2D drawings in collaboration/partnership with mechanical and electrical teams. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission! Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do
- Develop LV & HV harness design from early concept phase all the way through production, and support post production ramp up and cost down efforts for electromechanical battery systems
- Lead cross functional alignment between Mechanical, Electrical, Sensor, Harness, Structural, Assembly and Supply Chain teams, perform trade off studies between function, performance, cost and DFM/DFA
- Identify, evaluate, select, and procure harness components for high volume production
- Create 3D routing in CAD and sync with harness tools such as Zuken to generate final assembly drawings for fabrication
- Working with external suppliers and internal cross functional teams (quality, supply chain, mfg etc.) to take 3D designs to physical product for development
- Design harness for harsh environmental conditions (ie high pollution degree, ingress protection etc.)
- Help create Design and Quality standards for wire harnesses, specific to Form’s battery applications
What you'll bring:
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant harness mechanical design experience
- Knowledge of battery systems, high voltage systems, EMC Strategies, and communications protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
- Proficient in SolidWorks, both harness and general mechanical design as well as basic mechanical and thermal simulations
- Solid mechanical engineering fundamentals: thermal, vibration, durability, corrosion-prevention, materials, etc.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in handling multiple priorities, proactively organizing workloads, and meeting tight delivery timelines
- Detail-oriented personality with effective documentation and reporting
- Preferred experience with GD&T and design for high volume manufacturing
- Bonus: Zuken harness design experience
