Job Description
This position leads and supervises work crews operating heavy equipment — including 10-to-25-ton dump trucks, dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, vibratory compactors, scrapers, forestry mowers (FECON), track hoes, and backhoes — to complete Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) projects focused on soil stabilization and vegetation management on Army lands. Additional responsibilities include tracking project progress and preparing monthly and quarterly reports. This position coordinates projects at Fort Lee and Fort Eustis, VA and will require multiple trips and travel coordination to Fort Eustis. This position will have purchasing power for procurement of good and services needed to complete projects.
Essential Duties
- Operate heavy equipment to complete Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) projects, including but not limited to 10-to-25-ton dump trucks (25-ton off-road dumps at some locations), dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, agricultural tractors, vibratory compactors, scrapers, forestry mowers (FECON), track hoes, and backhoes.
- Conduct repair, maintenance, and reconfiguration activities in support of Army training missions, including mechanized brush and small tree removal, thinning and clearing (rotary cutter, FECON, Hydro-Ax).
- Apply gravel and aggregate, rip rap, and articulated/cable concrete.
- Supervise full-time and seasonal employees; manage, plan, and coordinate daily crew activities.
- Provide training to ensure safe and accurate task performance in hazardous field conditions.
- Perform operational maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure readiness and safety; make minor adjustments and perform operator-level maintenance as needed
- Track project progress for monthly and quarterly reports.
- Fulfill other duties as necessary to fulfill the mission and sub-missions of the ITAM program and DPTMS as approved by the Installation Point of Contact.
Decision Making
- Make equipment operation safety decisions.
- Assist in determining best strategies for maintaining and repairing army lands to safe and sustainable conditions.
Supervision
- Position will supervise LRAM Operators.
Conditions of Employment
- Pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must be able to comply with all applicable regulations to obtain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) and public trust clearance.
- Candidates are required at a minimum to complete a NACI/SF85 and successfully pass a federal background check.
- Valid driver's license.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Minimum Qualifications
- 4 years of professional experience.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment and driving pickup trucks.
- 2 years of experience supervising equipment operators.
- Ability to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity).
- Ability to repeatedly lift 40 pounds.
Salary Range
$78,000 - $82,000
