Versant Media’s Data Platforms team is the central data store across the enterprise. We unify disparate systems into a secure, well-governed, real-time data environment that powers downstream products, analytics, and content delivery experiences.

We are seeking a Platform Engineer to contribute to the development of backend services and core platform components that power our data platform. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building scalable systems, improving developer workflows, and growing into broader platform ownership over time.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone early in their career who is building a strong foundation in software engineering while developing expertise in platform systems, infrastructure, and operational tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, build, and maintenance of backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript
  • Support development of modular, service-oriented architecture for data ingestion, transformation, and access
  • Help ensure platform services integrate with:
  • data contracts and schema validation
  • metadata, lineage, and governance systems
  • Write clean, testable code with emphasis on unit and integration testing
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
  • Participate in design and code reviews, learning and applying engineering best practices
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues in development and production environments
  • Collaborate with engineers across platform, data, and governance teams

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience
  • Proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript (or similar backend technologies)
  • Understanding of:
  • object-oriented design
  • basic design patterns
  • API and service development
  • Experience building or contributing to backend services or distributed systems
  • Familiarity with testing practices (unit, integration, mocking)
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and development workflows
  • Strong willingness to learn, ask questions, and take ownership of work
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-moving environment

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to data systems (pipelines, warehouses, or lakehouse architectures)
  • Familiarity with observability concepts (logs, metrics, tracing)
  • Experience working in cloud environments
