Job Description

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for performing the accurate delivery of prescribed ionizing therapeutic radiation under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist, using a variety of complex techniques and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plan as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Educate patients on procedures, skincare, side effects, and nutrition.
  • Performs simulation procedures and prepares immobilization devices for various body parts.
  • Monitors patients’ clinical progress, withholds treatment if necessary, and refers patients to Radiation Oncologist or Executive Director for appropriate intervention.
  • Operation of the therapeutic equipment, proper patient positioning, monitoring of the patient during the procedure, and related clerical duties.
  • Evaluates and assesses treatment machine operations; recognizes machine malfunctions and reports them to Executive Director.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely with all members of the health care team, patients, and families.
  • Meet and adhere to strict radiation safety guidelines, internal quality controls, organizational standards, department policies and procedures, and strategic goals.
  • Accurately complete and chart all simulation and treatment summaries, reports, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited Radiation Therapy School.
  • Current ARRT and State licensure required and will be verified prior to employment.
  • Current BLS certificate required and will be verified prior to employment.
  • Minimum of six (6) months’ experience as a staff therapist preferred; however, willing to train recent graduates.

  • Must demonstrate a caring, compassionate, and patient attitude.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Multitasking and proactive problem-solving.

Travel:

  • Must have the ability & willingness to travel to other sites as necessary within a geographic region.

Physical Requirements for the Job:

  • Able to sit, stand, and or walk throughout the day.
  • Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen.
  • Good general health and stress-coping ability.
  • Complete mobility and the capacity to engage in strenuous action, such as walking continuously into and out of the treatment area and lifting and moving patients as required.
