Job Description
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for performing the accurate delivery of prescribed ionizing therapeutic radiation under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist, using a variety of complex techniques and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plan as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Educate patients on procedures, skincare, side effects, and nutrition.
- Performs simulation procedures and prepares immobilization devices for various body parts.
- Monitors patients’ clinical progress, withholds treatment if necessary, and refers patients to Radiation Oncologist or Executive Director for appropriate intervention.
- Operation of the therapeutic equipment, proper patient positioning, monitoring of the patient during the procedure, and related clerical duties.
- Evaluates and assesses treatment machine operations; recognizes machine malfunctions and reports them to Executive Director.
- Communicates clearly and concisely with all members of the health care team, patients, and families.
- Meet and adhere to strict radiation safety guidelines, internal quality controls, organizational standards, department policies and procedures, and strategic goals.
- Accurately complete and chart all simulation and treatment summaries, reports, and documentation.
Qualifications
- Graduated from an accredited Radiation Therapy School.
- Current ARRT and State licensure required and will be verified prior to employment.
- Current BLS certificate required and will be verified prior to employment.
- Minimum of six (6) months’ experience as a staff therapist preferred; however, willing to train recent graduates.

- Very comfortable asking probing questions to patients.
- Must demonstrate a caring, compassionate, and patient attitude.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance.
- Multitasking and proactive problem-solving.
Travel:
- Must have the ability & willingness to travel to other sites as necessary within a geographic region.
Physical Requirements for the Job:
- Able to sit, stand, and or walk throughout the day.
- Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen.
- Good general health and stress-coping ability.
- Complete mobility and the capacity to engage in strenuous action, such as walking continuously into and out of the treatment area and lifting and moving patients as required.
