Responsibilities
Trash Technician
- Wage: $14/hour
- Full-time and part-time positions available
- Day/Evening/Night shifts available
- Background check, drug screen, and proof of employment eligibility required
Responsibilities
- Waste Collection & Segregation: Systematically collect and transport routine refuse, recyclables, chemical waste, and regulated medical waste (biohazards) from patient rooms, surgical suites, and staff areas while strictly adhering to segregation standards.
- Infection Control & Safety Compliance: Ensure biohazardous materials, sharps containers, and infectious waste are handled, sealed, and disposed of according to hospital policies, OSHA, and EPA safety protocols to prevent contamination.
- Equipment & Storage Maintenance: Safely operate heavy waste-handling equipment (such as trash compactors, biohazard bins) and routinely clean and sanitize waste storage rooms and containers.
- Hazard Identification & Reporting: Actively inspect waste containment areas for leaks, overfilling, or safety hazards, and report facility repair needs or protocol violations to supervisors
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Communicate effectively in English and work well in a team environment
- Must practice good personal hygiene, be neatly groomed, and be in uniform
- Preferred: Housekeeping experience (cleaning, environmental services, custodian, janitorial, room attendant, floor care technician, hotel operations, healthcare)
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, and reaching continuously throughout a shift.
- Pushing, pulling, and lifting furniture and equipment (25 – 100 lb.) frequently
- Pushing and pulling carts or equipment (over 100 lb.) on tile and carpeted floors continuously throughout a shift
- Must handle chemicals including bleach, wax, and disinfectants
- Must be able to operate equipment necessary to perform essential functions of the job
