The Role

As the Facilities Process Engineer, you will oversee and direct mechanical maintenance of plant conveyor systems while leading and developing skilled trades, including:

  • Power and free conveyors, skid conveyors, skillet systems, and roller/belt conveyors
  • Conveyor chains, bearings, sprockets, rollers, and wear components
  • Gearboxes, couplings, shafts, and drive assemblies
  • Mechanical alignment, tensioning, and tracking of conveyor systems
  • Preventive maintenance (PM) planning and execution to drive equipment reliability and uptime
  • Develop, implement, and enforce PM programs for all conveyor mechanical components
  • Troubleshooting mechanical failures such as chain stretch, misalignment, bearing failures, and component wear
  • Repair, rebuild, and replacement of conveyor mechanical components
  • Maintenance of lift stations, transfer systems, and mechanical interfaces between zones
  • Conveyor structural components including framing, supports, and guarding

Leadership & Skilled Trades Development:

  • Direct (help) training maintenance and Breakdown activities of skilled trades (millwrights, pipefitters, etc.) supporting conveyor systems
  • Train and mentor trades on mechanical troubleshooting, PM standards, and best practices
  • Assign work, prioritize breakdown response, and ensure safe, efficient execution of repairs
  • Drive accountability for PM completion, workmanship quality, and safety compliance
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on mechanical reliability and downtime reduction
  • Coordinate with engineering and production teams on equipment improvements and installations

Plant Facilities Maintenance

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of all plant infrastructure, including:
  • Loading dock doors and dock levelers
  • Overhead doors and high-speed doors
  • Air handling units (AHUs)
  • HVAC systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Building electrical systems
  • Plant lighting
  • Plumbing systems
  • Fire protection systems
  • Process water systems
  • General building structure and grounds
  • Schedule and monitor facility inspections and maintenance programs.
  • Coordinate contractors for specialized repair work.

Housekeeping & Site Appearance

  • Manage plant housekeeping standards in accordance with safety and operational requirements.
  • Supervise cleaning contractors and internal housekeeping teams.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure cleanliness of production, warehouse, office, and outdoor areas.
  • Ensure waste management and recycling programs are maintained.
  • Promote 5S and continuous improvement practices throughout the facility.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, environmental, and company safety requirements.
  • Conduct safety inspections and hazard assessments.
  • Enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices.
  • Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience
  • Extensive experience operating within UAW-represented manufacturing facilities, conveyor system maintenance and reliability of Power and free conveyors, skid conveyors, skillet systems, and roller/belt conveyors
  • Experience with Conveyor chains, bearings, sprockets, rollers, and wear components
  • Experience with Gearboxes, couplings, shafts, and drive assemblies
  • Experience with Mechanical alignment, tensioning, and tracking of conveyor systems
