Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Athletics is searching for an Aquatics Coordinator and Assistant Coach for Swimming. Reporting to the Associate Director of Athletics for Recreational Programs, the Aquatics Coordinator and Assistant Coach for Swimming, is an essential team member that holds responsibilities in the Athletics Recreation Programs and the Varsity Swim Team. This is a full-time, 12-month position, with varying hours including early mornings, evenings and weekends, as required.
Core responsibilities include:
Core responsibilities for Aquatics Coordinator will include:
- Coordinate and schedule pool for all aquatic programming including; varsity swim team practices, physical education classes, open recreation swim, intramural sports, group fitness classes, campus events, rental groups, summer camps and learn to swim programs. including hiring/training/supervision of lifeguarding staff
- Hire, train, schedule and supervise lifeguard and equipment desk staff; including policy development and implementation, risk management, equipment inventory/purchasing, and approve weekly payroll hours for student employees.
- Maintain website and communicate operating hours to campus community.
- Facility oversight of multiple athletic spaces and resources that includes: pool, fitness desks, locker rooms, gymnasiums
- Oversee all pool and hot tub mechanical and chemical operations. Coordinate necessary repairs with University Facilities Management Services and/or outside contractors.
- Teaching in the physical education program
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Core responsibilities for Assistant Coach for Swimming will include:
- Assist head coach with all aspects of the swimming program including on-deck practice and preparation for practice, meet preparation and set up, weight room supervision and assistance
- Some team travel required for competition
- Demonstrate sincere interest in personal, academic and athletic progress of student-athletes
- Exhibit supportive and cooperative behavior pursuing sport programs goals set by head coach
- Recruitment of potential student athletes via phone, email or personal contact
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- 1-3 years of collegiate coaching experience preferred
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is proven may be considered.
- Pool management experience preferred
- Previous collegiate experience preferred
- Proven leadership skills
Requirements
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
- Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)
- Motor Vehicle Records (MVR)
Requirements Upon Hire The selected candidate must obtain or complete the following after accepting the position and within the established timeframe:
- Certified Pool Operator
- Pesticide License required with Allegheny County Health
- Department Certification
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification
