Full-timeRemotePosted 2026-07-13Apply on Workday

Full job description

The Mobile Applications Engineering Manager leads the team responsible for Topgolf's guest-facing mobile experiences, spanning iOS, Android, and the services that power them. This role owns the people, processes, and delivery of the mobile app team, while staying technically credible across the full stack, from client architecture through backend APIs and platform services that the mobile app depends on.

You will build and grow a high-performing team of mobile and full-stack engineers, set technical direction and standards, and partner closely with product, design, QA, and platform engineering to deliver polished, reliable experiences to millions of players. The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with hands-on full-stack depth, and can move fluidly between coaching an engineer through a design decision, reviewing a pull request, and representing the mobile roadmap to senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, grow, and manage a team of mobile and full-stack engineers, including hiring, performance management, career development, and mentorship
  • Set clear goals and expectations for the team, run effective 1:1s, and build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Balance workload and staffing across mobile app initiatives, escalating resourcing gaps and continuity risks early
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative team environment that attracts and retains strong engineering talent

Technical Leadership & Full-Stack Delivery

  • Guide architecture and design decisions across the mobile app and its supporting services, drawing on full-stack experience spanning client (Swift, Kotlin), backend (Go, Scala, or similar), and API design
  • Set engineering standards and best practices for mobile development, code quality, testing, and release processes
  • Stay close to the codebase through code reviews, design reviews, and hands-on problem solving on critical issues
  • Own delivery of the mobile app roadmap end to end, from technical planning through implementation, QA, release, and post-launch monitoring
  • Ensure mobile applications and their backend integrations are observable, testable, secure, and built to scale with guest demand
  • Evaluate and integrate third-party platforms, APIs, and services relevant to the mobile experience, including payments, booking, and identity
  • Champion the adoption of AI-assisted development practices and tooling (such as Claude Code or comparable AI coding assistants, including AI-SDLC patterns) across the mobile team, and model their effective, responsible use in day-to-day development
  • Establish team norms and review practices for AI-assisted code, balancing velocity gains with code quality, security, and maintainability standards

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Partner with product managers and designers to translate guest needs and business priorities into a clear, prioritized mobile roadmap
  • Work closely with backend, platform engineering, and QA teams to ensure mobile features integrate cleanly with the broader Topgolf technology ecosystem
  • Represent the mobile team in cross-functional planning, architecture discussions, and roadmap reviews
  • Communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to engineering leadership and business stakeholders

Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated full-stack breadth across mobile and backend development
  • Experience with backend technologies relevant to Topgolf's stack, such as Go and Scala
  • 2+ years of experience directly managing software engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development
  • Hands-on experience building and shipping mobile applications (iOS, Android, or both) at scale
  • Strong full-stack technical foundation, including backend services, APIs, and data layer design
  • Experience leading engineering teams through the full product lifecycle, from planning through production support
  • Strong architectural judgment and the ability to balance technical debt, delivery speed, and long-term maintainability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to calibrate messaging for engineers and executive stakeholders alike
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and drive to elevate team capability
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and collaborate across product, design, QA, and platform engineering teams
  • Hands-on experience developing with AI-assisted coding tools (such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) as part of the regular development workflow, with the ability to demonstrate this experience through code, examples, or a live walkthrough
  • Demonstrated experience introducing or scaling AI-assisted development practices within an engineering team, including setting standards for effective and responsible use

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience leading teams on high-traffic, guest-facing consumer mobile applications
  • Familiarity with mobile architecture patterns (MVVM, VIPER, or similar) and native iOS/Android development
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern CI/CD practices for mobile release management
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development practices and tooling
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, evolving product environment with shifting priorities
