The 340B Drug Pricing program has become an increasingly important area of focus impacting AbbVie’s business. Originally designed to help safety-net hospitals and clinics provide better care to underserved communities, the program has grown significantly in scale and complexity. As a result, AbbVie has established a high profile, 340B Center of Excellence (COE), that brings together a team of experts who leverage analytics, insights, and innovative solutions to support strategy, strengthen program oversight, and address emerging industry challengThe 340B COE Principal Data Scientist will join the team with deep expertise in the business and operations of the 340B program. The team is responsible for maintaining and strengthening AbbVie’s 340B program, developing reporting and dashboards to track performance and entity eligibility compliance, managing duplicate discount detection and remediation, supporting covered entity eligibility policy, and building models to assess the impact of policy changes, initiatives, and government actions. This role will develop advanced analytics, outlier detection, new tools, models, and platforms to monitor 340B performance and forecast future trends.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Principal Data Scientist to lead advanced analytical initiatives supporting AbbVie’s 340B Center of Excellence. This high-impact individual contributor role operates at a Senior Manager level and will drive strategic insights, develop scalable analytical solutions, and partner with cross-functional teams to support enterprise decision making.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in healthcare and pharmaceutical data, including familiarity with the 340B program, along with strong analytical rigor and the ability to translate complex data into actionable business recommendations.

Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

Analytics, Data Science & Modeling

  • Lead the design and execution of advanced analytical projects supporting 340B strategy, optimization, and operations using large, complex healthcare and pharmaceutical datasets
  • Support the prevention and elimination of duplicate discounts and diversion in all channels
  • Build and maintain scalable data models, dashboards, and analytical tools to support data-driven decision making across the organization
  • Manage the full analytics process, including data sourcing, cleansing, exploration, modeling, and validation
  • Integrate new data sources to improve 340B program oversight, monitoring and management
  • Develop predictive and prescriptive models to forecast utilization, identify leakage, and drive program optimization
  • Apply advanced modeling approaches, such as knowledge graphs, to integrate diverse data sources (e.g. claims, EHR, wholesaler, etc.) and uncover hidden relationships for better decision support
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging AI tools to enhance analytical capabilities
  • Translate complex analyses into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership
  • Stay current with evolving 340B program requirements, healthcare data sources, emerging technologies, and industry best practices

Data Strategy & Enablement

  • Design scalable data solutions, frameworks, and best practices to enhance analytical capabilities
  • Improve data quality, governance, and integrity across 340B-related datasets
  • Contribute to the continued evolution of the 340B Center of Excellence through innovation and continuous improvement

Partnership and Communication

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align analytics with business priorities
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on policy and operational decisions through data-driven insights
  • Develop presentations and materials that distill complex analyses into strategic narratives, including strong data storytelling and visualization
  • Strengthen dashboard reporting, KPI tracking, and measurement of 340B initiative impact
  • Education: Requires minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred), in fields including Statistics, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, or another quantitative discipline
  • Experience: 5-10+ years of professional experience in healthcare with significant advanced analytics, reporting, and modeling experience within the pharmaceuticals industry; proven success delivering high-impact pharmaceutical insights from large, complex datasets
  • Domain Expertise: Strong understanding of healthcare business dynamics and data; knowledge of 340B flows highly preferred
  • Technical Proficiencies: Advanced proficiency in programming languages and querying tools, advanced analytics and modeling, and visualization tools
  • Leadership Skills: Strong strategic thinking, problem solving, intellectual curiosity, communication and the ability to translate complex data into compelling executive storytelling
  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of thisposting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location,and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
