Full job description
Performs tax research and analysis work. Prepare and complete tax returns and reports involved with state and local sales/use and other tax liabilities. Researching, evaluating research findings, and responding to taxability inquiries. Interpret state and local sales/use tax laws, rules, and regulations affecting the company. Acts as the team lead in tax audits and handles tax-related projects working under general supervision, with moderate latitude for making independent judgments.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of state/local/provincial sales/use tax returns, property tax, business license, and various other tax filings and related research activities.
- Conduct tax compliance activities and support tax-planning projects.
- Verify the accuracy of the general ledger sales tax accrual accounts, as well as the monthly divisional data including tax accrued on A/P & fixed assets as well as exempt sales.
- Ensure proper documentation exists for all exempt customers.
- Ensure proper documentation exists for all miscellaneous charges included on invoices. Storage, freight, and numerous other services must be set up accurately by the state to avoid substantial audit assessments.
- Assist in ensuring the proper collection and payment of sales/use taxes through the maintenance of various tax programs.
- Process claims for sales tax refunds.
- Administer the taxing requirements of all customers.
- Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
- Lead in the handling of state and local tax audits.
- Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of state sales tax laws, legislation, and current developments.
- Recognize, anticipate, and resolve tax issues; make recommendations.
- Initiate and help lead in tax-related projects
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance, minimum
- A minimum of 3 years of work experience in the business or financial field
- Must be able to consistently identify critical elements, variables, and alternatives to develop solutions.
- Must be able to organize/prioritize existing resources and incorporate new information, as needed, to implement the most effective solutions.
- Able to apply excellent business acumen and collaborative skills when resolving problems.
- Able to apply excellent functional computer knowledge in utilizing Microsoft Windows, MAC, or other technical tools in completing assignments.
- Requires excellent communication skills with the ability to state messages clearly that are easy for others to understand.
- Able to explain program policies and procedures clearly so that are understood by others.
- Requires a strong understanding of the impact of a message on the organization or customer.
RRD's current salary range for this role is $64,000 to $98,400 / year. The salary range may be adjusted based on the applicable geographic location of the hired employee, and the range may change in the future. At RRD, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. Depending on the role, in addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
