Laboratory Researcher (Temporary, Part-Time, Non-Student Hourly)

Position Summary

The Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Researcher for a part-time, temporary, non-student hourly position. This role supports cutting-edge research in comparative cancer biology and novel immunotherapy approaches, with a focus on translational applications between veterinary and human medicine.

The selected candidate will work closely under the supervision of a postdoctoral fellow and contribute to ongoing canine cancer immunology and immunotherapy studies. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking hands-on research experience in a collaborative academic and biomedical research environment.

About the Work Unit

The Department of Clinical Sciences mission is to assure the health and productivity of animals to meet societal needs through high quality educational programs for professional veterinary medical students, graduate veterinarians, and the public through a faculty and veterinary medical center of excellence, and to advance and disseminate comparative biomedical knowledge in an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Essential Job Duties

  • Conduct laboratory research in cancer immunology (primary duty, ~80%), including performing mammalian cell culture, immunological assays, and experimental procedures to support studies in canine cancer and adoptive immunotherapy
  • Operate and analyze data from advanced laboratory instrumentation, such as flow cytometry and confocal microscopy, ensuring accurate documentation and interpretation of experimental results
  • Maintain detailed and organized research records, including experimental protocols, data collection, and reporting findings to the supervising postdoctoral fellow and research team
  • Support laboratory operations and compliance (~20%), including stocking supplies, preparing reagents, washing glassware, and ensuring proper sterilization through autoclaving
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary research team, contributing to ongoing projects, maintaining a safe laboratory environment, and adhering to institutional and regulatory standards

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Immunology, or a closely related field
  • Prior laboratory experience in cancer biology, immunology, or immunotherapy research
  • Basic proficiency with laboratory techniques such as sterile technique and data recording

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in veterinary medicine or comparative oncology research
  • Familiarity with flow cytometry, microscopy, or cell culture techniques
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication and time management skills

Salary Range

$17.50-$22.50 per hour
