Role Description

The Test Operations team at Form is responsible for receiving, bring up, maintenance, and decommissioning of our test article prototypes. Along with the retrofitting and build of our test beds. We're looking for an experienced engineering technician to join our team in Berkeley, CA, to help us bring our groundbreaking battery modules to life.

In this role, you will be a key member of the Test Operations team, working closely with engineers and technicians to install, commission, test, operate, and troubleshoot the electrical and mechanical systems in our prototypes. What you'll do

  • Support installation, commissioning, decommissioning, and operations for Form’s battery module prototypes.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems to identify and resolve root causes of complex failures.
  • Conduct wiring and assembly of industrial control, power, and data acquisition circuitry with high precision.
  • Execute test plans to characterize the performance and functionality of battery systems under the direction of engineers.
  • Support Form’s first responder program to minimize energized downtime.
  • Support the execution of performance testing, attain data, and communicate findings to Engineering to improve performance.
  • Maintain clear, comprehensive, and accurate logs of test data, system modifications, and troubleshooting steps to ensure seamless knowledge sharing across the test operations team.
  • Maintain and keep our cell and module lab spaces organized, clean, and safe at all times.

What you'll bring:

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience as a technician working with high-powered equipment; experience with battery or solar systems is a plus.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting complex electrical issues in high-voltage systems and able to read electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.
  • A solid understanding of networking principles and PLC systems, alongside familiarity with industrial communication protocols for system-level debugging.
  • Highly safety-conscious with training in high-voltage risk assessment, safety protocols, and experience working around heavy construction equipment.
  • Comfortable with frequent and long-term wear of heavy PPE (steel-toed boots, face shields, chemical suits, etc.) as required.
  • Strong written communication skills with a proven track record of creating clear, actionable technical documentation and tracking work using Jira.
  • A strong work ethic rooted in a deep pride in craftsmanship—ensuring high-quality, reliable, and clean assembly and wiring work.
  • An attention to the details and proactive mindset.
  • Physically able to frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
