Safety Engineer at CRUSOE — Denver, CO
Full job description
About This Role:
Join Crusoe as a Safety Engineer supporting the design, manufacturing, and deployment of modular integrated electronics buildings and power distribution equipment. In this role, you will serve as the safety subject matter expert embedded across engineering and manufacturing, ensuring that electrical safety, machine safety, and process safety are built into our products and facilities from the earliest design stages through field deployment.
This position requires an engineer who can bridge technical design and safety compliance — working closely with Mechanical Design Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to identify hazards, drive design improvements, and ensure our low voltage switchboards, medium voltage switchgear, and critical power distribution equipment meet applicable safety codes and standards.
What You’ll Be Working On:
- Design Team Safety Representation: Serve as the dedicated safety representative on design teams, reviewing 3D models, drawings, and specifications for modular buildings and power distribution equipment to identify potential hazards early in the design cycle
- Technical Safety Program Ownership: Act as subject matter expert for technical safety programs, including electrical safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and machine safety
- Safety Analysis: Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments (e.g., FMEA, FTA), and failure mode analysis on products, equipment, and facility systems
- Documentation: Develop and maintain safety documentation, including safety cases, hazard logs, and compliance reports
- Code Compliance: Ensure designs and facilities comply with applicable safety codes, regulatory requirements, and engineering standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEC, UL listings)
- Process Safety: Support Process Safety Management (PSM) program elements as they apply to facility operations and equipment
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations teams to integrate safety requirements throughout the product lifecycle
- Site Support: Support safety assessments, walkthroughs, and equipment inspections at company facilities and customer sites
- Reporting: Prepare and present safety reports to management, regulatory bodies, or customers as needed
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Technical Foundation: Strong understanding of engineering principles as they relate to electrical and mechanical system safety
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEC, ISO)
- Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications for electrical and mechanical systems
- First Principles: Ability to solve safety-related engineering problems utilizing a first principles approach
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical safety findings for varied audiences
- Safety and Compliance: This position is designated a safety-sensitive position and/or is located in a safety-sensitive facility. Drug and alcohol program participation is required.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 26262, IEC 60204)
- Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) programs
- Experience with data centers, power distribution equipment, or complex electrical systems
- Engineer in Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) License
