Position Summary:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to work in the Engineering Manufacturing Education Center (EMEC) with the EMEC Director and engineering students. The individual will help teach MECH 200B lab sections, mentor Teaching Assistants, and will work with individual students and small groups to design, manufacture, and select manufacturing materials and processes.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Instruct MECH 200B Lab Sections.
  • Manage EMEC Lab Operations: Ensure students know how to properly and safely operate equipment, clean and maintain equipment according to specifications; and order supplies and materials to maintain inventory.
  • Mentor Teaching Assistants: Train Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants on lab instruction, maintenance, and responsibilities.
  • Mentor students: Work with individual students and small groups to design for manufacture, select manufacturing materials and processes, and build products using the manufacturing tools and facilities. Enable students to achieve the objectives of the courses for which they are doing work and contribute to a culture of open communication and respect.
  • Service and Outreach: Support the WSCOE and MECH Department by leading tours of the EMEC and UTLs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline;
  • 3+ years of experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment;
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up;
  • Experience operating and maintaining machine tools, hand tools, and general shop fabrication equipment with metals, plastics, wood, and composites;
  • Experience working with engineering undergraduate students; and
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline;
  • Experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment;
  • CNC certification or requisite experience for Level 3 CNC machining, experience and proficiency with Mastercam CNC programming software;
  • Experience with Pro/Engineer (Creo), SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, or other solid modeling software; and
  • Experience and understanding of: heat treatment of metals, finishing, adhesives, forming, metal casting, welding, composites lay-up, sheet metal fabrication, tooling, etc.

Salary Range

$75,000 - $80,000
