Full job description

Role Description

The Metrology CT Technician based in Weirton, WV will perform a vital role as a hands-on quality team member at Form Energy. You will operate cabinet X-ray and industrial 3D CT scanning equipment to inspect materials and components using non-destructive testing methods. Set up and adjust X-ray system parameters, including tube settings and detector configurations, to obtain clear and accurate scan results. Prepare and secure test samples using custom fixtures to ensure proper positioning during 360-degree scanning. Process scan data using reconstruction software to generate 3D images for evaluation and analysis. Inspect and identify internal features such as cracks, voids, porosity, fiber orientation, and other material defects. Perform basic dimensional inspections by comparing scan results to engineering drawings and CAD models, including wall-thickness measurements and deviation analysis. Document test results, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings to engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. Conduct routine equipment maintenance, including system calibrations, filament replacements, target maintenance, and radiation safety checks to ensure safe and reliable operation.

What you'll do

  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate cabinet X-ray and industrial 3D CT scanners, carefully calibrating X-ray tubes, focal spot sizes, and detector panels for optimal material penetration.
  • Scan Preparation & Fixturing: Design and build custom, low-density fixtures to position rigid material samples securely on rotating stages to achieve high-resolution data collection.
  • Data Reconstruction & Processing: Utilize advanced software to reconstruct raw 2D projection data into high-fidelity 3D volumetric models.
  • Materials Analysis: Analyze internal features to identify material failure points, structural cracks, porosity distributions, fiber orientations, and void inclusions.
  • Metrology & CAD Comparison: Compare 3D CT scan data directly against engineering CAD models to map nominal-to-actual deviations and perform wall-thickness analysis.
  • Reporting & Collaboration: Compile clear technical testing reports and present findings to materials engineers, manufacturing teams, and quality control specialists.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular target maintenance, filament changes, system calibrations, and radiation safety checks on high-energy enclosures.

What you'll bring:

  • 3+ years experience in heavy manufacturing assembly or quality inspection
  • Experience using industry standard metrology tools such as CT’s, calipers, micrometers, gauges, microscopes, multimeters, CMMs, optical comparators
  • Experience using test equipment such as tensile testers, wire harness testers, ultrasonic testers, and physical property characterization equipment
  • Experience working and auditing to industry standards including ISO 9001 or equivalent, NADCAP, ASTM test standards, IPC 610/620/J-STD-001, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
