Full job description

ROLE SUMMARY

The Principal Technical Product Manager owns the deliverables for major areas of the Kepware product portfolio. Working from the product vision set by Product Management, the Principal TPM translates that vision into executable roadmaps and drives delivery across engineering teams, including distributed and consultant-augmented teams. This is a senior leadership role accountable for delivering working software at scale, and for setting the standard that other Technical Product Managers follow.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the product backlog and roadmap: translate the product vision into a clear, prioritized, actionable roadmap and backlog aligned to business objectives.
  • Drive delivery at scale: lead teams to deliver working software on predictable cadences across multiple product areas, removing blockers and managing complex cross-team dependencies.
  • Lead distributed teams: effectively run and coordinate teams across multiple geographies and time zones.
  • Manage consultant and augmented capacity: integrate contractor and consultant teams into delivery, setting clear expectations, quality standards, and outcomes.
  • Translate between business and engineering: convert the product vision and business goals into technical requirements the team can execute against, and communicate technical realities back to stakeholders.
  • Set the standard: model best practices in product execution and delivery; mentor and raise the bar for other Technical Product Managers.
  • Partner cross-functionally: work closely with Product Management, Product Marketing, Architecture, Engineering, Quality, Security, and Support to align on priorities and outcomes. Scope of ownership may evolve over time based on business needs. Contribute to product vision and strategy while respecting that vision ownership sits with Product Management.
  • Own delivery accountability: take responsibility for what ships, when it ships, and whether it meets the bar across the areas they own.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and policies.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • The product areas have clear, prioritized roadmaps and backlogs that stakeholders trust.
  • Teams deliver predictably, with complex dependencies managed and blockers cleared.
  • Distributed and consultant teams are integrated and productive.
  • Other Technical Product Managers look to this person as the standard for the role.
  • The Principal TPM is the trusted owner for their areas - decisions get made, software ships, and quality holds.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive experience as a Technical Product Manager, Product Owner, or equivalent role owning major product areas.
  • Strong track record of delivering complex software products to market on predictable cadences.
  • Experience leading geographically distributed teams.
  • Experience working with consultant, contractor, or augmented teams.
  • Strong technical foundation - able to engage credibly with engineering on architecture, tradeoffs, and technical decisions without needing to be the deepest technical expert.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with autonomy in ambiguous, shifting environments.
  • Excellent prioritization, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience mentoring or setting standards for other TPMs.
