Mercer University is searching for an Admissions Counselor on the Atlanta, Georgia campus.
Responsibilities
The Admissions Counselor is responsible for the recruitment and admissions of working adult students into undergraduate programs offered by the College of Professional Advancement for the Atlanta Campus and Distance Learning, as well as Tift College of Education and Stetson-Hatcher School of Business. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: recruitment travel, inquiry development, student interviewing, professional presentations, and correspondence. Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, RAC, this position works regularly with the Marketing and Communications team for ATL/RAC, all Academic Program Directors, as well as staff members engaged in admissions, alumni and development, and career service functions.
Duties include:
- Manage the recruitment of qualified students by participating, as needed, through feeder institution visits and presentations, general college fairs, corporate visits, open houses, Chamber events, etc.
- Meet with area employers and Mercer alumni in support of new student recruitment.
- Participate, as needed, in the general functions of the office -- student interviews, school visitations, open houses, college fairs, etc.
- Recommend to Director of Adult Undergraduate Admissions, policy and practices designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the admissions office. Assist with the strategic planning activities of the offices of admissions.
- Show initiative and leadership in assuming new responsibilities, identifying enrollment opportunities, and setting a standard of professionalism for the admissions staff.
- Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty and staff from other departments on campus.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university is required. Candidates who have prior experience in admissions/recruitment or a similar sales oriented role preferred. Candidates should have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications for letters, mailings, etc.
Candidates must have a valid driver's license.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knows how to use Microsoft Office products to maintain accurate prospect management.
- Polished presentation/public speaking skills, fine-tuned organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to conduct interviews and presentations to prospective students and their families.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written abilities that positively reflect upon Mercer University with diverse populations, which are vital to the success of this position.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time in order to meet and exceed set goals, and willingness to go beyond what is required to meet goals.
- Availability to travel to event locations (sometimes driving long distances requiring overnight stays) during early morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed.
- Capability to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to understand the specific needs of working adult students.
- Demonstrates a dynamic and approachable personality with the ability to engage and connect with a diverse student body.
- Ability to understand marketing and advertising development and strategies.
