The Role
The Assembly Process Group develops and implements innovative assembly processes that enable robust manufacturing of transmission and drive units. This role is responsible for sourcing, designing, building, and qualifying assembly processes and equipment from initial concept through successful implementation at the manufacturing site.
Our manufacturing engineers play a critical role in transforming GM facilities through the adoption of breakthrough technologies. From raw metal to final assembly, this team is redefining the tools and processes that will help GM deliver on its commitment to an all-electric future.
What You'll Do
- Design, analyze, build, and implement machinery, tooling, and equipment that support best-in-class assembly processes for transmission and drive unit manufacturing
- Lead the design, construction, integration, plant installation, launch, and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required to produce high-quality parts
- Source and qualify assembly equipment and processes from concept through production implementation
- Develop cost estimates and manage program timing and spending to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget
- Provide technical leadership and oversight to external suppliers and equipment vendors
- Develop, test, and implement advanced manufacturing process technologies
- Create and maintain core manufacturing documentation, including PFD, PFMEA, PCP, and BOE/BOP documentation
- Apply GD&T knowledge to ensure equipment, tooling, assembly processes, and quality verification procedures meet product design requirements
- Support robust manufacturing process development with a strong focus on safety, quality, efficiency, and launch readiness

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of assembly or machining process development experience in a manufacturing or manufacturing engineering environment
- Hands-on plant floor experience
- Strong technical knowledge of process engineering disciplines and product development processes
- Solid understanding of high-volume manufacturing and assembly processes
- Experience managing equipment development through design, build, installation, and launch
- Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external vendors to deliver manufacturing solutions
- Experience with transmission, drive unit, or powertrain assembly processes
- Familiarity with Bills of Equipment, Bills of Process, BOSE, and Bills of Operations
- Demonstrated experience driving process improvements and implementing new manufacturing technologies
